Yowza Bev, it's GREAT to hear from you! Don't be a stranger, let's her about what's been happening with the pack. And what's this about an outdoor website?

Scoop!

Here I am! Again! (sorry for the slow response - I saw something shiny and got distracted!)

In answer to your question, the website's going pretty good. I write up all my adventures, take photos, and load onto my website so others can plan similar adventures. It's as much for me as it is for other people. :-) http://www.nwfloa.com

In addition to Tigger, Freya (Great Pyrenees) and Dakota, we have a new foster pup (Skeeter) that's feral and its been slow going trying to gain his trust. He was also down with parvo right when we got him so he's had a bad start to life. He's not the brightest bulb in the box, but he's a happy puppy. We may wind up having to keep him if we can get him socialized. Any tiny little thing out of place or off his schedule and he looses it (like we can only go for walks out the back gate and never out the evil killer front door.)

Tigger has gotten quite the little attitude over the last couple of years. She's very jealous of us petting any of the other dogs and will growl and occasionally whoop butt on the offending dog. I won't even think about taking her to a park or any place that other dogs will be because she's fairly aggressive towards them. I can't help but to tie it in with her leg getting ripped off by other dogs when she was a puppy. I don't know that she'll ever "properly" behave.

In other news we're preparing for Hurricane Isaac. I can only imagine how well the foster puppy isn't going to handle that one.

And we're back! Again. I took Tigger to the vet this morning because she was crying when she tried to get up. I thought it might be the beginnings of arthritis (she's 7 yrs old now), but the vet thought she had a soft tissue injury from too much rough-housing in the backyard. Well, that's good news. They sent her home with Tramadol and some anti-inflammatory medication and instructions of no walks for a week. Tigger is used to getting long walks every day (usually about a mile or so depending on how far she wants to go.) The vet reviewed her diet with me and said Tigger is spot-on. We keep her weight in check, she gets glucosamine-chondrotin supplements and fish oil every day.

Not much else has changed around here except for my 15 yr old dog, Dakota, passed back in April. We still have our Great Pyrenees and we still provide a rotating spot for foster dogs. I still work at the courthouse and I still have my outdoor website. Oh, I did enroll in the Florida Master Naturalist Program at UF/IFAS and I've completed 2 of 3 courses on my way to becoming a Master Naturalist. So that's the abbreviated recap.

I'll try to come around more often. Life just gets so busy though.

Bev it's GREAT to hear from you, what a blast from the past! It's really an honor when someone returns after a long absence, truly.

Glad to hear Tigger is pretty good overall (but sorry to hear about Dakota...15? wow!). When you first came to us Tigger was just a wee little pup, can't believe she's actually older than our own Wyatt Ray (he was born in 2009). Time flies!  That's so cool about your Naturalist program, sounds neat! What exactly will you do when you graduate?

By the way, did you hear about our Tripawd Rehab Reimbursement program? Check it out. Hopefully Tigger will be OK with some R&R but if it keeps up you might want to have her checked out.

And speaking of flying, do you still have Benji?

Yes, I do still have Benji. She has two little friends, Amelia (Ami) Earhart and Opie. Both were rescues. Well, I guess they were all rescues in the beginning. 🙂

Tigger is feeling better and not taking any pain meds. Oddly enough she is now letting us know when she doesn't feel like going for a walk. I think that's a big step with her communication skills. Rather than get leashed up she'll just sit down and grumble her displeasure and we'll leave her behind while the other dogs get walked. She's been much happier with this arrangement. She still goes for walks quite often, just not every day.

I'd like to hope that after I finish the Naturalist program that I can find some kind of work involving nature or the outdoors. I've tinkered with the idea of starting up an eco-tourism business but I'm really not certain that it would be feasible. Maybe I'll branch out into a different direction and perhaps put together a nature book or some such thing. I do a lot of photography now so that would lend itself well to a project of that sort.

Sandy Paws stopped by and brought the furry kids a few squeaky toys (even the flying squirrels.) I guess they've all been mostly good.

Well, that's about it for tonight. I'll check back in later.

Bev
