Calling all suckers for happy endings!

Aren't we all suckers for happy endings around here? This is not a tripawd story, but it's a survival story and involves my neighbor Greg, and I think it might make your week.

Greg's 16-year-old Aussie, Casey, vanished 11 days ago. He was visiting a friend a few miles away and Casey just wandered off, something she does not do. Casey is, as I said, 16, deaf, partially blind, under treatment for heart failure, and has some doggie dementia. Not a good candidate for a walkabout.

Greg sent out an APB 11 days ago and we've all watched and hoped for Casey. We assumed she became a coyote snack.

Holy cannoli, though, Casey was found today by a kayaker! She vanished where our major creek water supply runs into a reservoir, and the kayaker knew Casey did not belong there. He flopped her across his kayak, put her into his car, and drove her into town to the vet. Casey is with a neighbor now, as Greg is out of town. She will recuperate there. We all know each other up here, so the vet started her back on her way to healing with her heart meds. She lost 5 pounds but had water to drink. Now if she could only talk!

So here's a shout out to Casey the survivor! I think I need a drink just thinking about her adventure.

Shari

Great story, Shari! That definitely calls for a little celebratory cocktail!

Happy Labor Day weekend everyone,

Jackie, Abby's mom

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Love it! I can imagine what the reunion will be like. Way to go Casey! Cheers!

Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end.  On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us. http://ranger.t.....pawds.com/
