Hello, friends! Winnie has had an awesome year and we're really doing well. I finally took the plunge to get a few chest x-rays for Winnie (we had delayed...another story) and...well...she has a lung tumor. I don't know much yet. We see the oncologist on Monday. But, if there are any synovial cell sarcoma friends out there, I'd love to hear your thoughts. I want the rest of Winnie's life (she's 12 and 1/2) to be pain free no matter the time she has left. So, I am trying to understand how I can keep her the most comfortable and happy. Please give a shout if you have any thoughts. And thanks! Love, Alison and Winnie

Virginia

Gosh! It is sooooo good to hear from you and Winnie!!! I remember how that sweet girl melted my heart with her first picture and some of recovery blogs!

ONE YEAR PLUS...AND STILL GOING STRONG!!!! YAAAAAAAAAY FOR WINNIE!clap

My beloved Happy Hannah had osteosarcoma, so I dont know if that makes any difference whatsoever in the "type" of lung met she had versus what Winne has.

Did you get the xray because she is showing symptons...or just because. When I finally did get an xray done after she was showing some "symptons", the vet said it was the size of a baseball! I did proceed a vit with metronimics...like about two weeks, but she wasn't able to continue due to UTI. We got some great quality time and wonderful bonus days full of loving and spoiling, ice cream and cupcakes, popcorn and a few M&Ms now and then!!

For my Happy Hannah...and every dog is different...every case is different, she never did show any pain per se, or even any coughing. She just became exhausted at the slightest exertion and started javing some restlessness at night...just not sleeping well, seemingly due to breathing becoming harder. She ALWAYS ate and ALWAYS wagged!

An even better example of a dog living a great qua for over seven months after mets were found...SASSY!! She loved life pain free and had great quality almost right up to her transition!

All that matters....regardless of what xrays show...is that Winnie is feeling good and still enjoying life!! She sure isn't worried about any ole stupid report and ceetainly has no time frame stamped on her butt!!

The best advice...and you are already doing it...make sure yoj are staying in the NOW with Winnie...in the present!! Let NOTHING interfere with your time together!! Take loads of pictures and jist spoil, spoil, spoil and enjoy the bliss of your time together!!,

Stay connected...we understand and we are here for you! And remember, all is well in Winnie's world!!!

(((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))))))))

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Hi Alison,

Gawd I'm so sorry, we all are. I saw your post in another forum and shared some info with you there. Like Sally said, stay in the now and remember to take things one day at a time, just like Winnie. Mets or not she is still the same adorable dog who just wants her pack to be content and happy. {{{{hugs}}}}

Thanks for the encouraging thoughts everyone. I really appreciate it. So it looks like I posted it on two different forums - sorry about that. Of course, now I can't find the other thread and I think that's where Jerry's advice is. I promise I'll get better at using the site. I'm out of practice.

Sending hugs and love to you and your sweet Winnie!

We went through the same thing with our tripawd angel, Kira, who crossed the bridge in January. When we confirmed the cough she developed 11 months post-amp was an inoperable lung tumor, we decided to make her last days as happy as possible.

Basically, we carried on as usual, playing, giving her tons of love and treats, taking her for rides in her wagon, doing all the things she loved. If you didn't know Kira had a lung tumor, you would not have known she was ill! She was her peppy, loving, curious self, right up to the day of her transition. We let her decide what she wanted/didn't want to do and went with it. If we are ever faced with a similar situation, we'd do it that way again.

Many blessings to you, your family and Ms. Winnie. Wishing you all warm, loving, sweet days together.

Sorry for the news. You sound as if you are spoiling her and letting her enjoy life. Just think, if you did not do the X-rays, you wouldn't know right? Keep on going just like that. Love on hr, spoil her, take lots of pictures and car rides. I kept living in the future and I regret not being more spontaneous and spoiling. I was a food police and should have given him anything he wanted. Remember, they do not know what cancer or lung mets are, they just want life to go on as normal. Lori, Ty & gang

TY GUY, Best Black Lab ever! Diagnosed  and had amp in January, 2014. Kicked MRSA's butt. Earned his angel wings on April 16, 2014. Run Free my boy and don't forget a shoe. Ty is a proud member of the " April Angels". Ty sent us Daryl, a Tripawd rescue in Sept. of 2016. Daryl is 5 +or -. We are also Pawrents to Chandler, a Border Collie mix who is 15 and 1/2, Lucy, a Corgi who is 7, 2 minis, 2 horses, and a feisty cat named Zoe. Zoe had a non skeletal Osteosarcoma removed in July 2015. No Chemo, she was at least 16. She is going strong although she is now completely blind. She is now close to 20 and her hobbies are eating and sleeping in front of her personal heater.
