Hello! I'm going to be picking up my newest member of the family on Friday from the airport. Tango is a 10month old Long haired Chihuahua that is a front left amputee. His first owners failed to take good care of a dressing he had on his leg and it became badly infected. When they brought him to the vet to be put down (AT 6 MONTHS), his foster mom intervened. After his amputation, Tango has thrived but he wasn't getting any offers for a forever home. Low and behold, I saw him on another dog forum I frequent and he will be in my arms soon!

I have two other furred pets, a 3 year old BC/Retriever mix and a 2 year old Domestic Medium Hair cat. I'm hoping my dog will learn how to interact with Tango without knocking him over!

He's adorable! How sweet you are for taking him in.

Keep us posted on how he does – especially with your other "monkeydogs" (that's what we call the four-leggers who act up to try to steal attention away from the oh-so-special Tripawd in the family!).
All the best to you and Tango and your pack,
Jackie, Angel Abby's mom

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Thanks everyone! Izzy the BC mix is almost 55lbs and Tango is only 6! We're hoping Izzy's more motherly instincts will keep her from accidentally hurting him. I will be picking him up from the airport reallllly late Friday night so I probably won't be able to post new home pictures until Saturday but I will keep you updated :)

Hello to Tango and his new family, and welcome to the tripawd community.  I have one of the smallest (but obviously not THE smallest) tripawds here.  Sparky is a five year old rat terrier, also a front left amputee.  He, too, lost his leg due to the treatment of his previous owner.  He walks, runs, pulls on his leash, and jumps on the furniture.  I'm sure your Tango will be just as agile.  My only suggestion is that you not baby him.  Sparky pulls on his lead because I let him get away with it.  I wish I hadn't.  If you expect Tango to do everything a quadpawd can do, he will.

Best of wishes!

Becky

Welcome Tiny Tango!

Introducing a new family member is always a bit of a tenuous proposition, but I think it will go okay for you… Just supervise all their interactions very heavily until everyone adjusts and figures out their place in things.

I found it really interesting how other dogs seemed to sense there was something different about Rio. I was really nervous bringing her home post-surgery to her sisters who are very large and bull-in-a-china-closet-ish. But they seemed to know that she needed to be treated differently. Whenever we took her where there were other dogs, even dogs that had never met her before, even they treated her very gently. Even the ones who wanted to play with her, if she didn't want to, nopawdy really pressed the issue. Hopefully this will be the case with Tango, too.

What a lucky dawg for finding such a great pack!

Don't worry about him getting knocked over, chances are he'll be the one bossing everyone else around :)

We're so glad you adopted him and can't wait to follow along with your adventures.

It's better to hop on three legs than to limp on four.™

I remember reading somewhere that dogs are one of the only animals that knows to treat smaller/injured dogs differently instead of challenging them and trying to show dominance. Izzy is good with my cat so I think she'll be ok with Tango. Just a little apprehensive like most people adding a new dog to their pack! I'll have to make a conscious effort not to baby him since he will be the smallest dog I've ever owned, even excluding his tripawd awesomeness! He's living with two dogs now that are 55 and 60-ish lbs and seems to take care of himself just fine so I just need to let them figure it out I guess.

Thanks for the warm welcome!
