WELCOME HOME SWEET SKYLA!!! And you look mighty pretty in your pink!

She's doing exactly what she needs to do....rest, rest, rest. She'll get her mobility issues worked out in time. Right now she's drugged and using her energy to recover from MAJOR surgery!

And YAY for eating!! Although my Happy Hannah NEVER missed a meal, most dogs are off food for a few days. Poop might be delayed to, so no worries. Drinking and peeing are important though.

I know you are relieved to have beautiful Skyla home!! Home and snoozing in the cool breeze can be very healing. Slow and easy, rest and hugs, recovery is in progress!

Stay connected and let us know how things are going! Take it easy yourself and TRY and get some rest yourself!!

Hugs!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

WOOHOO! What a great update, cheers to Skyla and you for making it through surgery day and onward to recovery. We are so hoppy she's doing well. Sounds like she will roll right through the next couple of weeks. We will keep our paws crossed that she does. And don't worry if you don't have time to update for a while, Skyla is your #1 priority right now of course so no worries. We'll be cheering her on in the meantime clap

Y'all are fantastic - THANK YOU!!! I feel like I just couldn't do this without the support. I certainly wouldn't feel as confident or optimistic, that's for sure!

We are doing great overall. This dog is a warrior. It blows my mind how strong animals are. I'll update more specifically later.

I do have a question: thoughts on bandage vs. no bandage? The operating vet did go ahead and put a pretty significant pressure bandage on. I like the fact that it protects the wound, but it makes me uneasy that I can't see what's going on under there. It also makes her hot, and with summer in full swing and no AC, I've been concerned about keep her comfortable during the afternoons. What do y'all think of bandages post-op and how long it should remain? The vet recommended a check-up and possibly removal one week out.

Thanks again and much love to all!

YAY Skyla!! (and Fur Mom 😉 ) Sounds like surgery went great! So happy to see the pic of her at home and enjoying the breeze outdoors big-grinAs for the bandage, Kylie didn't have one, so I think that must vary from surgeon to surgeon? Not sure. I'm sure other members have more info on that topic. I just wanted to say I'm so glad things seem OK and to just keep checking in with questions. We have all been there & are happy to pay the support forward!

Much hugs!

Chris & Kylie xo

My Happy Hannah didn't have ine either. Although she was a rear legger, I think it's a little easier to keep a bandage in a front legger.

That said, I agree with Chris, it just seems to be a personal decision that varies from Surgeon to Surgeon.
We see many here WITHOUT and then we see some WITH.

You could ask your Vet about removing it sooner, or making it a more "minimal" wrapping so Skyla won't be so hot. I think you have a good reason for removal or minimizing.

Let us know what he says.

So glad to hear how well Skyla is doing this early...so very early.

Hugs

PS....You might want to keep some flavored ice cubes for Skyka to munch on.

I completely agree and like these ideas. Thanks, Sally & Chris! I'll keep y'all posted. Our recheck appointment got pushed to 9 days post-op and my gut feeling is that's too long. I'm going to call tomorrow and see if there's any chance she can stop by Friday. If not, I may opt to remove it myself (kind of scary!) or see if our regular vet can sneak her in. We shall see!

Also, the ice cube idea is fabulous. She hasn't been interested in water a whole lot, but loves her raw goat's milk, so I can imagine ice cubes made of that will be delicious! rasberry

So glad surgery went well and Skyla's back home under your mama watchful eye!  Looks like she's right where she needs to be this early in recovery!  She's looking great if a bit tired right now but as her body adjusts a bit more each day it'll get easier and easier.  She's doing exactly what she should be doing, resting, eating & drinking and short potty breaks!  Not to mention soaking up all the spoiling Tripawds deserve and get 😀.  Give your beautiful girl hugs from us all!

Thanks so much, Linda! The encouragement and hugs are always so appreciated!

Skyla is on day 4 post-op and she's been such a tough babe. 💪🏻
She's up and walking on her own now; I'm really just being careful and watching but letting her figure out this whole three-legged business.
Her appetite was a bit down/she's been picky and not taking all of her pain meds, but she also hadn't 💩 'd since before surgery. She JUST went so hopefully she'll be feeling even better and willing to eat everything! I'm so relieved! 🙌🏻

Just look at that SMILE! Ok, it was a little warm outside too so she was panting, but c'mon! She gets very proud when she treks around all by herself heart

You are a BATHING BEAUTY SKYLA!!! 🙂 l. Looking mighty fine sweet girl!!"

And we have poopicon_png . HAPPY poopicon_png . DANCE. TIME !! 🙂 "

YeaH, hope her eating picks up a bit. It's important the pain meds are given on a consistent basis so the pain never has a head start.

So glad Skyla is adapting well to three legs! She is, indeed, a very tough babe!! 🙂

Keep these great updates AND photos coming!!

Awww, she looks so happy lying there outside. It must be so refreshing to enjoy the open air after being confined. Congratulations on the 💩! Now what's for dinner, Skyla? Something tasty I'll bet.

We are on day 7 today - hooray! I updated our blog (raeandskyla.tripawds.com) in case ya'll want to follow along a little closer. We took a quick spin to our regular vet today, complete with a Starbucks run for a Puppachino. This girl deserved it! Tomorrow is a big day - bandage removal and recheck with the surgeon! She's been so hot so I'm excited to get all that cotton off of her.

All in all, things are going great, better than I expected. She's been down the last few days, sleeping a lot and quiet. She hasn't wanted to play yet, or get up on her own much. I'm hoping she perks up soon. She is eating, taking her meds, pooping, getting in and out, etc. all very well, so I think it's just a matter of time before her spirit really picks up. In the meantime, I'm just loving the heck out of her and doing anything I can think of that might bring her a little joy or comfort. heart

Best. Pupdate. EVER!

I hopped over to your blog and am thrilled to see her doing so well. There's great nutrition info there too, thank you for sharing all the details. Like you we opted out of chemo for Jerry and just focused on a small core group of healthy supplements and good nutrition to keep his quality of life up to par. You're doing great with her care!

We agree, give it a bit more time for that sparkle to come back and she'll be the Trail Boss once again! 😉

If you don't mind me asking, how much time did you get with your Jerry post-op? It's so hard to know what to expect; I think expecting nothing and being grateful for every single day is really the best attitude. I don't want to forget the C word, I just want to focus on wellness. I'm sure you know exactly what I mean!

Good evening, wonderful friends!

We are about to hit the hay, but just wanted to say the bandage is gone and this girl is continuing to blow our minds! I couldn't be any more thrilled with how well she is healing. Here's a few photos of that beautiful incision and of course, the smile :))

Wishing you all a wonderful rest of the week,

Rae & Skyla
