I LOVE this pic! He's got that "I'm baaaaaaaack!" look in his eyes.

Such great photos, mind if we use some in our photo galleries?

Here's to a great weekend ahead. Yay Moe!

Thank you for the good wishes!  <3  Thanks for the compliments on the photos, Jerry, and yes please feel free to use any of them.

Progressing with some more firsts over the weekend.  While getting pats on the soft carpet, he rolled over on his shaved side and continued to demand pats in good comfort!  Later, he wanted to scout the house and went upstairs.

While he was scouting, he passed a full length mirror that he's only seen once or twice before, in a room that's usually closed.  He was a little wary, trying to figure out the alternate-universe me and him, but ended up just laying down back-to-back with his reflection for a while before continuing his sweep of the house.  That other cat looked just like him!  Shaved side and all!

When he was done scouting upstairs, I thought for sure he'd need help getting back down, but he just gave it a considering look and took the staircase three or four steps at a time.

We had another little window of good weather this morning and got in a nice nap outside in the sun.  Then, because he is a creature of habit, he sat outside the kitchen window to beg for food, and I had to go back inside and let him see me in there before he'd run to the door to come in and get fed.  My hungry little buddy.  <3

Such a GRRRREAT update! And a fun one too!

I love how he picked his routine right back up of begging for food at the kitchen window. And laying next to his " u5ddy" in the mirror...OMC! So cute!

My Happy Hannah didn't lay on her amp side until the FIVE WEEK mark! Moe is ahead of the curve!

Thanks for sharing the remarkable progress of Moe! Seeing them return to their old routines is so upliftiw!

Hugs!

Hi guys!

It's been raining almost nonstop for days so not much outside time for me and the lil fur butt.  We braved a light misting to sit out on some fluffy towels and listen to the woodsy noises for a little while, but the tail was whapping the deck pretty hard and we both decided that was enough and went back inside.  He's still working on walking comfortably, but he's really figured out the tripawed gallop, so he's doing that more when he knows where he wants to go.  I got him some fancy tuna treats at the Red Bandana store, which have been met with approval.  I like to give him a couple after he comes back to his bathroom from a good walk.  Oh, I never mentioned, the rest of this household is pretty allergic to cats, which is why he's mostly in the bathroom while he's getting used to all this and growing his fur back out.  I can mop in there and keep the dander down, and he's pretty content to stay in there with all his comfy warm stuff, now that the door is usually open.  He's definitely getting more back into his usual habits, like yelling if the door is shut and he doesn't want it to be.

Hopefully the weather will look up and I can come back with some more nice sunny pictures!

Awww Moe! Hearing how well you are doing makes me so joyful! You're starting to get you sparkle back slowly but surely!

I love how you make your wishes known when your humane close your door and you want it open! Waaaay cute!!

You clearly are a loved kitty! After all, many humans who are allergic to cats just flat out won't allow cats in their home! Of course, when you're as cute as you are, how could anyone resist?

Looking forward to your sunbathing pictures as soon as the weather gets better!

Good job Moe! Keep rockin '!

Hugs!

Thank you Sally.  <3

Moe's still trucking along.  His fur is finally starting to come in black again.  He's also returned to his formerly pushy ways about getting fed four times (I like to give him his wet food a little at a time so it doesn't sit around between his bouts of gusto).  Which currently means he's doing plenty of circuits of the house to get from his room to the office.  He's been following me outdoors too while I've been working on the yard with the doors open.

Last week I was out of food but got out of work really late and had to get him a can of Friskies at the gas station.  Man, they must put some tasty junk food in there because I gave him some that night, and in the morning when I took it out of the fridge and gave him a sniff at it, he ran full gallop back to his room and his dish and yelled at me nonstop till he got some.  But the ingredients on the can don't look so good, so, sorry Moe, we won't be switching!

I guess my overall plan is to give him his choice of in or out during the day and give him plenty of time to acclimate to everything while his fur is growing back.  If I'm lucky he'll decide for himself when he wants to move back into his house.

Here he is out on the deck the other day, getting some sun and showing off his good side.

Moe! You "show off your good side" with great pizzazz! Looking good sweet Moe!!

I love the visual of Moe running to his dish to get some more Friskies! Even kitties have ro have a little junk food every now and then! Goodness knows we humans do!

It's just delightful hearing how well Moe is doing. Following you outdoors...doing a little sunbathing...all really good!

You are absolutely adorable Moe!

Hugs and ear scratches!

Yup, Friskies is well known as "kitty crack". Good luck going through the withdrawal. laughing

It's good to hear that Moe is doing so well being so active and enjoying the outdoors.

Hi Moe and Lith! Glad to hear that life is rollin' right along! You are looking so good!

And yep, low end pet food is filled with tons of crack to get the animals to eat it. That's why a lot of times when dogs and cats are switched from a low end diet to a higher quality one, they look at the new food like "You expect me to eat this?!"

The same thing happened to us years ago when we got educated and switched Jerry from a low cost supermarket food to a premium one, then when we switched from kibble to raw. He didn't know what to make of it and refused it for a while, but then figured out it was WAY tastier and he never went back.

It's another reason why when animals are really sick and don't want to eat, we say anything is better than nothing so even if it's junk, that's fine for a bit.

Hi Lilith and Moe!

This is a pretty late reply, but we've been MIA here lately. Just wanted to say hi to a fellow tri-kitty and human guardian. And to say that Moe is a GORGEOUS kitty. His fur looks so soft and snuggable. I'm glad he's adjusting well. What food do you normally give him? I'm thinking of switching Smore's up so she doesn't get used to one brand. Have any suggestions?

Also, I don't know if you've already heard about it, but I hear that vitamins like cosequin for healthy joints is good to add to their food to prevent later arthritis or to at least slow it down.

Smore is my tripawd kitty who adopted me one summer evening. She had an injury to her front left leg and had to have her leg removed July 17th. She was only 3 or 4 months old at the time. Now she moves faster than some four legged cats!

Hi Tina!  Hi Smore!  A late reply from me too 😉

Thank you so much!  And what a sweet little toasted marshmallow Smore is there <3

To be honest I haven't really figured out what's best to give him.  I recently switched to Sheba pate since it doesn't use grain based fillers.  I supplement that with a little fresh cooked chicken here and there.  The cosequin sounds like a good idea, I'l look into it.  Especially since Moe's got to put so much stress on his wrist when he's getting around.

Moe, by the way, is his old self by now.  He started sleeping in his doghouse again.  (Though I did move the higher bed shelf closer to the floor, so that he can hop more comfortably down from it.  He was going up there to sleep and then sort of gently smushing into the plush floor mat every time he jumped down.  Poor guy!  But in the new location he can make a stable landing.)  He only wants to come indoors once in a while, like at breakfast.  He's up before me, waiting at the front door before the kids leave for school.  He gets impatient and runs ahead of me when I'm getting his food.  He's pretty graceful galloping.  He does stairs without trouble.  He looks at birds with a hunter's intensity and does absolutely nothing about it (as always).  He's not interested in that cornered skink because do you have dinner?  I smell dinner

Here is a short and incorrectly oriented phone video of him telling me to hurry up with the dinner the other day.

Hi all!

Gosh, it's been almost five months already!  Thank you all for your invaluable support in those early days and your wonderful encouragement while Moe was recovering his zest for hungry, sleepy life.

Love his fur coloring!  It is so dramatic, and looks so soft.  I also love the way he is using his three legs rhythmically, unless my Otis (a large dog) who hops more.  Looks like Moe is doing great!

Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016.  Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016.  Lung mets August 25, 2016.  Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016.   Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.

Wherever they are, they are together.
