awwwwwwwwwwwwwww... kiss that sweet mug for me.. right between those eyes and that brow... ****SMMOOOOOOOOCCCCHHHHHH**

Good news here is that you found us... and that is awesome.. but a wonderfulo part of that good news is that Jasper didn't have to have his leg amputated due to that nasty Cancer shit!!  If there can be any good news to losing a leg.. that is a good one!  You don't have to deal with the aftermath of treatments, etc.  You just have to deal with a healthy, active three legged dogger!!

We can all give you helpful hints here and advice on how to take care of your three legged guy.. and that is great as so many of us here have been there, done that, and still doing it!

My Franklin was a front left leg amputee and here's a few things I can share from experience....

What I really found helpful for him was raising up his food and water dish so that he didn't have to strain his leg eating and drinking...

As well.. throw rugs... washable throw rugs tossed onto the hardwood and laminate floors are sooo important if you do not have carpet.  These guys and gals can slip easily and you don't want to hurt that leg!  Heck we have no carpet but became almost wall to wall carpet again with throw rugs.. lol

I know he wants to be really active.. but it is important to keep him snuggled and loved up for a period of time.  My vet warned me that you don't want any blood vessels popping form too much activity too soon!  We kept Franklin in our TV room for the first week and only out to eat, drink, pee and poop!  Lets just say we watched alot of tv that week!

Short walks at first.. and don't expect him to heel beside you.  They have their own pace.. and it's faster than ours!!!  lol

They will burn off more calories than your average quad pawed....   so I had to put my Franklin on a higher protein diet... you don't want them to gain weight, especially for a front amputee, but you don't want them losing too much as well..

and last but not least... belly rubs..   belly rubs became just so darn easier and more fun with that leg missing!!  Don't forget to belly rub!!

Keep us posted on his adventures and recovery... that's how we all fall in love with him too!!

Christine.. with Franklin in her heart♥

Franklin, he was the Happiest Dog on Three Legs! Diagnosed 09/26/2012 with Osteosarcoma, amputated 12/4/2012.  Had a wonderful 5 1/2 months painfree until he ran for the Bridge on 5/15/2013.  Always in my heart, and always a guardian angel of my pack...   You can follow his Tripawd Adventures, before and after, in my blog, Frank'n'Farter!

Oh my gosh . . . I love Jasper. He is so sweet! I love the look on his face when he got his care package!

Harmony became a Tripawd on 10/21/14 (MCT). She left us way too soon on 11/1/14.

He looks great! We love Dr Janitell, too. She was there for us when Murphy was going through his early problems and she has remained one of his favorite people.

Kathi and Murphy

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!

UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

Took Jasper to the groomers today... He was stinky!!! He needed a bath before the accident and after the accident he had alot of road dirt/mud on him and dried blood.  So he got a good cleaning, a hair cut, his ears cleaned and let me tell you he smells amazing! Now I can cuddle with him and not gag aw-shucks Our vet said we could bath him but I been scared to do it in our tub as he use to slip a lot before and now I dont want him to slip around.

Some lady at the pet store started getting rude with me telling me I was cruel and mean and that I should put Jasper down and it's not fair to let him suffer like this... I told her that he is in NO pain and he is healthy and happy but she just got louder and louder saying how cruel I am....  I got teary eyed, this is my baby she was telling me that i should put down.  The employees at the groomers made her leave the store!!!
If at anytime we felt Jasper was suffering or in pain we would then make the decision with our vet on what needs to be done for him but as of right now he is HAPPY and not in any pain and very much loved by everyone!

WOW! Just wow! In over two years, I have never had anyone say anything like that about Murphy. As I commented on Jasper's Facebook page, I am usually pretty polite, but I'm pretty sure I would have told that person off, but good. That the groomers made the lady leave shows you that rude people are NOT to tell us how we should treat our Tripawds.

Ohhh look at that hoppy boy! Is he suffering? NO! Is he miserable? I DON'T THINK SO! ROCK ON JASPER!

Why do some people think that it's OK to give out their opinion to strangers? If I had met her, I would have probably been sent to jail after giving her a knuckle sandwich! OK not really but still, that is unreal. Of all people, at a dog groomer! I feel sorry for her dog most of all.

Thank you for staying strong and being there for your sweetie. He's got a great life ahead because of your courage!

Whoever that OBNOXIOUS lady was should be ashamed of herself!!!!!!  People's ignorance just really peeves me off....mad

I'm so glad the groomers kicked her hateful butt to the curb!!!!

I feel like asking that hateful woman "if a family member of yours needed an amputation would you put them down?"  UGH...people!

OK I'll stop ranting now...little-devil

Don't you DARE feel guilty or like you did something wrong for Jasper!  You've been a wonderful loving parent for Jasper and will continue to be.  You know Jasper better than anyone and he is happy and pain free!!  That is what's important.  Jasper is a big part of your family and you absolutely did right by him.

Give that sweet boy a cuddle and smooch!

One month ago today... Does anyone know what happened one month ago today...........?

Yep one month ago today Jasper had his amputation surgery, one month ago today we hobbled our sweet guy into the vets and said goodbye to his leg he couldn't use, one month ago today I grieved the lose of his leg, one month ago I learned just how strong (in every sense) Jasper really is and one month ago today Jasper and our family started our new life as tripawds!!! Can't believe its only been a month someday's it feels like this is how its always been and someday's it still feels like a nasty nightmare and when I wake up none of this has happened.

But Jasper is doing amazing.... he loves to play ball (but wont give back the ball for you to throw again), he loves going bye-bye in the car, he goes up and down the stairs like nothing, he is the same Ol' Jasper as before ..........maybe a little bit more spoiled laughing

Look at that handsome face....

took him to his one month check up today and they are impressed with him.... Jasper has been on his diet for 3 weeks and total weight loss is 7.5 pounds BUT some of that is weight loss from losing his leg too... he has 2.5 pounds to go to be ideal weight for a front leg Tripawd... the vet wants him on the slender side... where as before his accident he was on the chubby side.... But the vet also agreed that his weight is probably what saved him when he got hit...
