OfflineThank You. Isabelle is a very stoic dog, but she really can't tolerate any GI distress. She is also about 12 & some of her activities are limited by her arthritis. I don't want her to have any additional down time. She really doesn't even notice her leg is gone & I want her to enjoy every day.
Best of luck with your new rescue. They are worth the hard work!

OfflineWelcome, Isabelle.
Catie, our Golden Retriever, had her right foreleg and shoulder amputated on January 13 of this year from osteosarcoma. She was six years old at the time. We opted to do chemo and did five treatments of the recommended six. While her side effects weren't extraordinary compared to the severe reactions some dogs have (lethargy, GI distress, loss of appetite, etc), we stopped at the five because there didn't seem to be enough evidence that the sixth one would make that much different. We were tired of hauling her off to the oncologist. She was tired of feeling lousy for a week after each treatment.
That said, Catie had her 7th birthday last month and we will be celebrating her 11-month ampuversary in 10 days. There's no other word for her recovery and continued enjoyment of life but "amazing."
Isabelle is indeed a beauty, by the way!

OfflineWow, Isabelle – I just had to tell you, I probably gave you water during your rescue after Katrina. We volunteered for a weekend at the Lamar Dixon center, being used as the staging center for the rescues. It was heartbreaking to see so many animals without homes. My husband contacted the Ascension Parrish Animal Shelter, found out what their needs were, called me at work to tell me he thought we should go help, loaded our car with donated supplies from our vet, stopped at Walmart for cleaning supplies, put Trouble in the kennel, and off we went to New Orleans. It was a humbling experience, and it so warms my heart to hear of Katrina adoptees living the good life.
I am so glad you shared Isabelle's story. I hate she (and you) have osteosarcoma to deal with, but Isabelle is a fighter. Let her lead the way.

Welcome Isabelle and family! We're sorry you had to find us – but are happy to hear Isabelle is doing well. Holly had chemo, but she had side effects of lost appetite – it was pretty bad for about 7-10 of the 3 weeks between treatments. I almost stopped on several occasions, but her vet convinced me to continue. I really believe you know Isabelle best and choose the right treatment based on your love of her. She is a lucky dog to have found you, and it sounds like you are so lucky to have her in your life too! We look forward to hearing more about Isabelle!
Sending hugs, and best wishes,
Holly, Zuzu, and Susan
PS – Zuzu's real name is Isabella!

OfflineThank You for helping all of the Katrina dogs. They were certainly a mess when the shelter I volunteer at brought them up. Isabelle surely appreciated the water. She had heartworm, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, lacerated ears, fleas & quite a bit of missing fur. Her teeth were ground down,, probably from eating rocks & sticks. I'm sure she had dental pain, because her front bottom teeth were all fractured below the gums. They were all pulled & Her worn down lower canines had root canals…she was a new dog after her dental work!
I was definitely not in the market for a dog when she adopted me, but am forever grateful. She is my best friend & though the first 5-6 years of her life were likely hard, she lives like a queen now!

OfflineHello Isabelle! Cemil is also using the Hoxsey formula, along with AHCC and other supplements. For him, it's been working–he just had his 22 month ampuversary. We're looking forward to hearing more from you–you're an inspawration already!
