I just wanted to share a message of hope for all of you whose tripawds have been diagnosed with osteosarcoma.  Last October, we received the awful news that my beloved Ridgeback had bone cancer and amputation was recommended.  After some soul searching (and finding this website!) we decided to amputate.  The first month was awful, but after recovery, Hector bounced back.   We opted against chemo and went after the cancer with homeopathic remedies and a strict anti-cancer diet.  Like most Ridgebacks, Hector didn't have any trouble eating, no matter what we gave him.  He still gulps down kale just as enthusiastically as kibble.  As the days went by, I kept giving him little goals - make it through Christmas - make it past my birthday in March - make it to your birthday.  His next goal is his one year anniversary, and I'm beginning to think he actually might have beat this beast.  All I know is that each day he's still with us is a blessing to me.  And if he still wants to come up on the bed and smash up against my legs in the summer heat, it's worth the loss of sleep!

Awwww thank you SO MUCH for sharing Hector's story!  I see you joined back in November but are just now chiming in. We really appreciate it, every story like his gives hopes to others who are just starting out.

He still gulps down kale just as enthusiastically as kibble.

OH my gosh that made me laugh so hard! Too cute. We hope he has many, many more hoppy times ahead. You are certainly doing a great job Being More Dog and following his lead. I love the little goals you've reached for. It's such a great way to be present and live in the now.

Do you have any photos you'd like to share? Here's a post about adding images to the Forums Let us know if you'd like assistance OK?

YAY HECTOR!

That is just brilliant!  Happy, happy birthday and amazing 10 month ampuversary, Hector!  We look forward to celebrating more milestones with you!

Lisa, Minneapolis

On October 27, 2016, nearly 6 months after amputation, and 18 months since his cancer likely started, we lost Pofi to a recurrence of Soft Tissue Sarcoma in his spine quite suddenly.  His canine sister also succumbed to cancer on March 1, 2019 - we lavished her with our love in the interim, but life was never quite the same without her only real canine friend. Cliff kitty had to leave us, too, suddenly, in August 2019. Lucia kitty grieved all these losses, but helped us welcome two new Lurchers into our home and our lives, Shae and Barley.
