Hello I am new to the forums, long time follower on facebook - I have a 10lb german spitz klein in grey/white parti... who is a front left leg amputee, his name is Curry! I adopted him almost one year ago from a family who was moving and having a baby and didn't think they could care for him any longer. I stepped in and took him, three legs and all! according to the family before me, they said he had broken his leg and the bone did not heal properly and the leg had to be amputated. regardless, he is happy, healthy, hyper and wonderful and loving and so obedient!!!!! ive never had such a great dog before. im really truly so lucky to have him. he truly is one of those dog stories where the dog saved me. he is the best thing in my life.

  1. here is a photo of him the day i got him!
  2. here is a photo of him on his 2 year birthday!
  3. another photo of him on this 2 year birthday!
  4. here is a photo of him from this week!

anyhow, enough boasting and happy-tears laughing

we are now coming up on our one year together and i was wondering WHAT HAVE YOU GUYS DONE FOR ANNIVERSARIES WITH YOUR FUR BABIES, THIS IS OUR FIRST YEAR TOGETHER I FEEL LIKE I NEED TO DO SOMETHING AWESOME FOR HIM.

ANY IDEAS? PHOTOS OF YOUR CELEBRATIONS OF ANNIVERSARIES OF ADOPTION, ANNIVERSARIES OF AMPUTATIONS, BIRTHDAYS, AND CELEBRATIONS OF JUST THEM SURVIVING AND THRIVING BEING TRIPAWDS??

PLEASE ANY RECIPES, SUGGESTIONS, STORIES, "WELL WHAT WE DID WAS" STORIES ARE WHOLLY WELCOMED,

I am a fairly new tripawd mom of ALMOST 1 year, and i am so excited for Curry and I to have many many more years together, HOW SHOULD WE CELEBRATE???????? i am so excited. he doesn't even know big-grinbig-grinbig-grinbig-grin

Welcome to Tripawds, your future posts will not have to wait for approval.

I hope you don't mind, but I moved your post here to 'Share your Story' since you are introducing yourselves.

Congrats on adopting a tripawd and adding such a wonderful pup to your pack!  He is a very handsome boy.

Many here have or had tripawds due to cancer so celebrated each month together.  I didn't find Tripawds until 3 year's after my pug Maggie lost her leg to a mast cell tumor so we didn't do the monthly ampuversaries.  Maggie was only supposed to live 6 to 9 months after her amputation, so I was pretty grateful for each day we had in the almost 4 years she survived.

What is Curry's favorite thing to do or place to go? Where are you located? Can you organize a Tripawd Party in your area?  Check out our Nutrition Blog for some ideas on healthy snacks and even cakes for pups!

Welcome again, I look forward to hearing about your one year celebration and more pics of Curry.

Karen and Spirit Maggie

Tri-pug Maggie survived a 4.5 year mast cell cancer battle only to be lost to oral melanoma.

Curry is one PRECIOUS pup!!!!  I love his avatar pic!!  I know many will chime in with their "party" expertise with their furkid.  Sadly, I didn't get very long with my Leland after he became a Tripawd so we never got the chance to celebrate any Ampuversaries.

So welcome to the community and I look forward to reading about your and Curry's journey together!

Feel free to post in the Tripawd Parties Forum to schedule and coordinate a gathering with Tripawds members near you.

What would that entail? Whatever you want! Most get-togethers are low key, but we're happy to support whatever you decide to do. Search that forum, or check the News Blog for a few examples of past parties.

Seriously, how cute is Curry??!!! I think you should celebrate with whatever his favorite things to do are. You said he loves to eat, is there a bakery/coffee shop near you that has dog cakes or treats? I immediately envisioned Alison here, taking Shelby to the local coffee shop :)

If you are in San Diego. it is very dog friendly! My girl, Shelby, and I used to go out there all the time. We would have lunch, cocktails, coffee.... I loved taking Shelby places!

I'm in LA and no longer a mom to a Tripawd but I am mom to a quadpawd who is learning her manners in public places.... Southern CA can be dog friendly ...just have to find the right places.

Have fun!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

there are plenty of bakeries and cafes that have dog treats but not many with cakes or bigger things than a bite. I am really really picky on what I feed him and on what schedule, so I try to read every single ingredient and watch everything that goes into my poop machine. ill probably just make something at home, but yes it's coming up!!! adoptionversary 2015!!!

he's surely so spoiled I don't know what will count as a treat! I bake him his own pumpkin flax oatmeal gelatin parsley cookies, he gets two eggs a month. he gets his regular wellness small breed dog food, he gets plain greek yogurt occasionally, 1tsp gelatin treats every day, he gets 2 a day after poop reward treat of "fruitables" greek yogurt crunchy apple treats and eats whatever fruit veggie I have, mostly carrots and Apple......but boy, he is always eating something!!

oh boy time to kick the brain into gear and get to thinking of some creative treats!!
