Oh, wow, good thoughts for you and Cooper.  I know you must be near panic.  Try to breathe and get some rest so you can watch him sleep when he gets home :)

Oh Cooper's Dad – so sorry to see your latest update. So, did they leave the scapula with the original surgery and are now going to remove that? (Lots of us had the scapula removed initially so that is fine.) I hope this enables them to remove anything that is infected. Your story sounds a bit like FancyPants, who seems to have just had the rest of his hind limb removed, only a short time after the initial amputation.

It is not fun, but dogs can withstand two major surgeries close together. My Tazzie happened to have stomach torsion a few weeks before he was diagnosed with bone cancer, so those were two Major events close together. Others, like Coop and Fancy, have "revision surgery". I think I have mostly read about car accident dogs that have a string of surgeries, particularly if they try to avoid amputation, but then it becomes necessary.

In any case, I hope this takes care of the problem and that you and Coop can start to get back on your feet. Please keep us posted.

Karen.

Thanks for the thoughts and I actually was going to start a new topic on this, not altogether familiar with the forums and how they work, but I will see about doing that. Thanks for the suggestion

I have felt uneasy for the last 2 days about this opening, and felt peace this afternoon after taking him in. Coops mom and I are believing God for continued strength and healing for Coop!

Coopsdad,

I'm so sorry to hear this. I'm glad you acted quickly and got Coop in to see the vet today. Poor poor Coop! Try to get some rest. Coop and his family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Or, consider starting a new topic that you can just reply to with a link each time you update Cooper's blog.

We're sorry to hear about Coop's complications, but really appreciate you sharing the details to help others prepare for what can possibly happen during recovery.

Best wishes getting over this hurdle quickly and completely. All paws are crossed for you here.

paws crossed for cooper!!   'scapula????  we don't need no stinkin' scapula…..'    when gayle had her surgery, even though the tumor was in her wrist, they took the leg and scapula, saying it made a smoother surgery (no bone, only connective tissue) and does provide a slimming line….  hope cooper is back home soon, and healing well from this!!  stay strong!!
