I can't believe that it has been a year since I have been on this site.  Yes, Brody (our greyhound) will soon celebrate two years and two months of life after the amputation of his front leg from osteosarcoma.  Every story is different, and I don't know what has helped.  Was it the two transfusions he received after his amputation when he bled out.  Was it the chemotherapy?  I don't know, but I think these things helped plus K-9 Immunity and absolutely no wheat products (unless he has snagged some bread off of the counter).  Also, he was 7 years old when he got the cancer, and this is the age with the best longevity for survival.  I am thankful for these extra years, months and days with him, as well as all of he support that I got in those horrible days and weeks after his diagnosis and surgery.  It was worth it all!!

Brody, You Rock! thanks for the GREYT Update! laugh

If you can get a picture of Brody running, in all his three legged glory, we'd love to see it. We ave an idea for new Tripawds t-shirts but need a Greyhound picture to work from

Zoweeeee! You know when we don't hear from members for a while we like to assume that no news is good news, but this is GREYT NEWS!!!

We all learn something from everyone who visits these forums. For newcomers I'd like to share Brody's story in the links below. When you came to us, we didn't know much about how Greys are more prone to heavy bleeding after amputation surgery, but thanks to your joining us and sharing your recovery story, we can now warn other Greyhound people about this. So thank you!

Here's Brody's Greyt recovery story:

5/25/09: Bleeding capillaries

6/26/09: Brody (another grey) has his first chemo today

7/12/09: Boarding your dog post amp

8/21/09: Greyt Day at the Park

3/25/10: Eleven months post amputation–there is always hope!

6/20/10: Brody – now 14 mos. post-amp and going strong

Pawesome news Brody! Don't forget to send us some pics OK?

It's better to hop on three legs than to limp on four.™

Jackie, Abby's mom

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman.
