I have an almost 17 year old chihuahua that was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma 8 months ago. I have been taking him for years for acupuncture and the Dr that does it said he felt something was not right and told me to do an ultrasound. The internist saw the tumors and said his spleen needs to be removed ASAP. Luckily the tumors had not stared to rupture and bleed yet. We got VERY LUCK and caught it very early.

We chose not to do chemo due to the fact that he has a bad heart and kidneys. His cardiologist said his heart would not be able to handle the chemo. So we decided to try the mushroom I'm Yunity. Tomorrow will be 8 months since his surgery. We do very regular ultrasounds and he has 2 small spots on his liver so the Hemangiosarcoma most likely is back.

We had a small scare about 3 months ago. He did not want to eat. I tried cooking him chicken and rice and he ate that for a few weeks and then he stopped and then I tried turkey burgers and he would only eat that for a few weeks. He lost a lot of weight and was so weak. Then I decided to try "just food for dogs" it is a local place that makes their own human grade dog food. He LOVES it and he now begs for food. He has gained all the weight he lost and even added a little extra.

I know that he has 2 small spots on his liver and it could be sooner than later but I am just so grateful for the last 8 months we have had with him.

Wow! Seventeen years old, and eight months and going strong with hemangio? That is AMAZING and WONDERFUL! clapWhat's your pup's name? Thank you so very, very much for sharing your story with us. Hemangio is one of the scariest diagnoses ever and you are both handling it like a pro, with such great attitude and big hearts it's clear that is what's carrying you both so far.

So you must be in southern CA? We LOVE Just Food for Dogs! Here are two blog posts we did about them. Best. Food. Ever! Are you using their cancer diet? Oh and which clinic are you working with? Just curious, we're familiar with many of them out there.

Also, we discovered Im Yunity from another member a while back, that's good stuff! Here's a blog post about that too:

Mushroom Therapy for Canine Hemangiosarcoma

Your story just rocks, we are so glad you shared. It's right up there with Bucky's hemangio story, he's lived two years with it!

Got any photos? Here's instructions for adding photos to forum posts , let me know if you want assistance, I'm happy to help.

Wow, when I first saw this forum, I thought maybe new strides to combat this ugly canine cancer, then my next thought was that it got another sweet pup.......re-reading one of my first posts of my Polly's story sure brought back some tears, but I am also glad it may help someone else going through this same ugly c.

I will NEVER be able to beat 17 years old !! This little guy seems to be doing fairly well and I hope that continues. And great advice Jerry, if there is one thing I could change, (and I know we shouldn't revisit this) but I wish I had learned of Im Yunity sooner.... As well as Polly did do overall, I think this supplement would have made a positive difference in her trying to beat this crappy cancer.

Like Polly... my heart sunk when I saw this forum pop up as I lost my beloved Shelby to Hemangio after 8 months.

But that story is TRULY amazing. ... 17 years old and going strong? We had fatty tissues in our liver too but it was a brain bleed that got my sweet girl. Keep on the good fight. You give hope and inspiration for those fighting this cancer!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

That is so wonderful! I lost my Scottie to HSA 15 years ago. I hate HSA more than OSA. Before Sally has a chance to say it, can we see pictures of your chihuahua??

I am so sorry for not coming back and replying.

Here is a little update. We are at 11 months now since he was diagnosed with Hermangiosarcoma. We are still doing the I’m Yunity. He has been getting weekly ultrasounds. On 6/25/15 the internist found 2 small spots on his liver. Since then, it seems like there are new spots/tumors every week. He has some on his liver, kidneys and now there are new ones on his gallbladder. On 8/12/15 he found a new large one on his liver that concerned him. When we did the ultrasound yesterday (9/3/15) that one has almost doubled in size and he said that it does not look good. He said he thinks he has maybe 1 to 6 weeks left. My main question and concern at every ultrasound has been if he is bleeding and so far we have been lucky and the answer has always been no, he is looking good. This past month he has lost his appetite and is very lethargic and wobbly when he walks. Last week I bought him some rotisserie chicken at the market and he most of time will eat that. Last night I bought him the leanest ground beef I could find and he loved that. At this point I just want him to eat and enjoy it as much as he can and be as comfortable as he can but unfortunately I think the Hermangiosarcoma is winning. I am just SOOOOOOOOOO grateful for the past 11 months that we have had him in our lives. (Yes, I am crying as I write this)

I am so sorry you are going through this. Eleven months with HS is amazing, but whatever amount of time they have is never ever enough. You are doing so great. Whatever he'll eat, I say give it to him, that's what we did with Jake. HS is so unpredictable and everything about it sucks. I'm sending you lots of hugs and prayers.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. I feel so lucky. Sammy is 17 years old and 4 years ago he had his adrenal gland removed. He was diagnosed with an adrenal gland pheochromocytoma. He also has heart failure and kidney failure for the past couple years. He is a fighter.

I have to jump in here as well.......re-reading everything here tonight, start to finish has me in tears.

Sammy is amazing, so much adversity in his life and still 17 years of happy, joyful living..... Like Alison, Elizabeth, Ingrid, and so many others in this community that have lost pups to HSA, I hate this disease so much, it is just so evil. But there have been many successes as well, and you can believe that handsome Sammy is a success story. And like the others have said, he is definitely handsome!

Yes, give him ANYTHING he want to eat, he deserves it.....

Keeping you and Sammy in my thoughts, {{{hugs}}}

SAAAAAMMMMMMYYYYYY!! You are the most adorable little Miracle Dawg in the land! Your avatar picture jas me grinning ear to ear

And that piece of crap disease isnt winning squat!! In top of that, statistics and "timeframes" obviously don't mean squat to you either. Oh my dog! Look at what you've overcome...not to mention that you've been here in your earth clothes far longer, "statistically" speaking, than most dogs!

Sammy is by your side right now and DEFINITELY has more time to soak up some loving and spoiling, not to mention steak and ice cream topped of with a bit of cheese pizza! Now is the time like never before to Be More Dog and stay in the present...in the now...just like Sammy! Let NOTHING rob you of your time together NOW! You love Sammy so much, you can do this!

Such a lucky, lucky boy to have you as his human! Such a little Miracle Dog...but he became one because of you!!

Thank you for updating us about this inspirational little guy! Such a Beacon of Hope for so many!!

Sending you lots of love...and a whole truckload of gooey goodies for Sammy! Looking forward to pictures!!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
