Just read Tess’ Mom’s first post and the power of a
forum like this is immediately evident.  My
oldest (he’ll be nine in November) boy Alexei was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma
and his follow up visit with the Oncologist suggest things are as well as they could
hope at this time.  Alex is also
scheduled for surgery on Tuesday just like Tess.  I will be praying for both of these beautiful
souls and trying to absorb all the valuable information on this site…

So sorry to have two new cancer club members, but glad you found a place where you will be at home, and supported by a great group of folks.  Tess and Alexei will be in my thoughts Tuesday and so will their wonderful pawrents.

Shanna sure has that correct – we are very sorry to hear of Alexei's diagnosis. Shanna did not mention that sharing ampuversary dates, like Alexei and Tess will, can take on very special meaning as you pass down this journey together. You can compare notes, have joint (if virtual) celebrations, and give each other extra support. Trouble is one of five who had their amputations over a four week period starting on November 11, 2008. Tika was with us just weeks short of a year after the amputation, Cherry had 405 days after an horrible prognosis,  Max made is for nearly fourteen months, and both Nova and Trouble are still moving down their respective journey's and rapidly approaching the two year ampuversary milestone.

This community will be making a collective prayer for Tess and Alexei, sending all the positive thoughts possible, will anxiously await your report, but more important will be celebrating as you too move along these future ampuversary milestone. Many of believe that such ampuvary pawrties should start after the two weeks from hell.

Sending you our best,

Spirit Cherry's Dad

Welcome to Tripawds Alexie and pack,

Good luck on Tuesday, read up and rest up until then.  You will need to be strong and positive when you bring Alex home.

Bob is very much on target with his description of the bond the two of you will form.  The November Five are 'super' special to me and with each ampuversary Trouble makes, I reflect on the three angels whose journey have ended.  That all five of us made it close to or over the 12 month mark was an accomplishment in it's own right.  I like to think having each other brought strength to the group.

Hello Alexie and family,

I second the motion about doing your rest now.  After my boy had his surgery it was 5 days before I got to sleep more than 5 minutes here or there.

I am really sorry you had to go searching for this site.  I didn't know how common cancer was for dogs until I came here.  But the good news is the people here are so wonderful!  I don't know, in my darkest hours, how I would have fared if it weren't for the support I received on this site.

So, sorry I am welcoming you, but I am glad you found this place.  Get sleep now!  and let everyone know how Alexie is doing and that she made it through the surgery.

Elizabeth and Sammy

Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in the right front leg 8/23/10, leg fractured 8/27/10, leg amputated 8/30/10 http://sammyand.....pawds.com/   I couldn't begin to say how special Sammy is to us.  Living and laughing with and loving this wonderful boy is priceless.

Alexei is a nine year old male with a Russian name that often confuses people.  confused  We had thought he hurt himself rough housing with his two brothers and when he did not heal, well you guys know the process…  Alex is the big guy on one side of the toy tugging both his little brothers Bure & Tucker when they were about a year.  Thank you for all the support and information that should prepare me for the days ahead.

Alexei, we're so sorry about your diganosis, but as you can see here, there is so much hope and promise even after a cancer diagnosis. You've found a great group of people that totally understand the emotions and the path that you're about to embark on. If there is anything any of us can do for you, please let us know OK?

P.S. You are a VERY handsome boy and you must have a ball with your brothers! You'll still have many, many good times ahead. Paws up my friend, Tripawds rule!

We'll be thinking of you this week, please keep us posted.

I have to apologise for not posting an update sooner, but it was a long 48 sleepless hours for me.  I brought Alexei home at 6pm the same day as his surgery.  It was exhausting, stressful and rewarding at the same time.  Alex was kept heavily medicated for his own good and still was up and around by mid-morning Thursday.

I allowed him to do way too much Friday and Saturday, so Alexei had a ruff/uncomfortable Saturday night that scared me.  Unfortunately, he has to use the stairs to go out and my mistake was letting him talk me into car rides Saturday.  This is what happens when the pawrent is not properly pawrenting.  Alex was back sleeping with his pack for the first time last night…

Glad to see an update, I was getting worried.  wow, very few come home the same day!  You must really have been stressed out.  It sounds like you are about to get the pawrenting under control (it's hard not to let them do what they want), maybe you can share with the rest of us how this is done!  Sounds like Alexei is off to a great start.

Aww that's OK, like Shanna said, it IS hard not to let them go all out when they look like they can. Recuperation's a learning experience but thankfully it doesn't last furever. Have a great, relaxing week now!

Wow, home the same day!  I think I would have lost my mind!  But so glad to hear Alexei is doing well and everything is getting regulated.  Now go get some rest!
