OfflineGood news so far!!
Please keep us updated. You might consider starting a new thread in the 'Treatment and Recovery' forum when you bring Baily home. It helps us all keep track of where you are with Bailey.

p.s. the link you posted for Bailey's blog didn't work for some reason, but I fixed it.
Hi guys – This is our first night with Bailey and he has started a constant whimper. We know he is in pain but the vet didn't prescribe anything other than the Fentanyl patch. Did anyone else give Tramadol or similar oral pain med along with the patch? Other than the whimpering he is doing well – he ate a full bowl of food and drank a half a bowl of water. He peed himself this afternoon but we took him out later and he urinated for 51 seconds! Yes – I timed it! Please let me know about the pain meds – I can only imagine the whimpering is normal but we want hime to be comfortable. Thanks!

OfflineThe wimpering and incontinence may be a side effect of the Fentanyl. Both are quite common. It may not be related to pain. Was he started on a NSAID? You might ask about it tomorrow. Nice that his appetite is good.

OfflineHello,
Glad Bailey is home.
Maggie came home with the patch and tramadol. As I recall the patch was good for about 3 days, but we started tramadol too. He may still be getting the anesthetic drugs out of his system. Eating and drinking are good signs- and quite an impressive pee!!
I can tell you from personal experiences that surgeries that involve bone work can be very painful.
I would talk to your vet about additional pain meds. Some don't handle tramadol well, Mag did not, but there are other choices. On the other hand my quad pug Obie was on tramadol for two weeks with no side effects. I had a hard time telling if Mag was in pain, or acting oddly because of the pain meds (at first, later I learned it was the tramadol). Since it's hard to tell how much pain they are in I gauge the pain level by sleep. I figured it Maggie could sleep soundly she was OK (goes for me too). This is how I finally figured out that Mag didn't handle tramadol well, she would sleep for a bit then wake up agitated and not sleep for hours. But again- there are other choices than l- and if Bailey has been on it before you know how he would act.

OnlinePlease consult with your vet for any advice regarding medication. The whining may very well be Bailey wondering where all the pink flying monkeys came from… they're coming from that patch.

Hi Bailey and Family!
Seems I have come to this forum post amp, but I wanted to tell you that my dog Chloe was diagnosed with spindle cell sarcoma (I think you said the aspirate had spindle cells; Chloe's did too). She just celebrated her 6 month ampuversay (back left leg) and she is an active 9 year old dog (almost 10 years old)! She didn't need chemo afterward since amputation cured her. As for the whining, Chloe did that the first day we took her home, and then no more.
If you want to check out Chloe's blog click the link in my signature box (on bottom) and you can see how she has done over the last 6 months! These things include: going up/down stairs, running on the beach, playing with other dogs etc… she does everything she used to before amp. Took a while to relearn things, but she bounced back quickly. I hope Bailey does too!

Thanks so much for all the info and I will certainly look at Chloe's blog for insight and inspiration! As Karen and the Pugapalooza suggested, I have transitioned my forum posts to the Treatment and Recovery section. Thanks Karen for all the help with learning to use and navigate the site! The whimpering has stopped and Bailey is resting easy – now I can too (on the floor right next to him of course!)
