Hi Lori - it's always possible that she could be getting something outside.  I walked the yard each time & didn't see anything unusual.  There's a public park behind us, so anyone could have access to our yard, but we've lived here 8 years and have never had any issues.  We live in a safe community.  There are squirrels & rabbits around, and of course other wildlife.  We can normally tell when they've gotten a bunny because Cassie gets diarrhea pretty bad.

I looked up the horn thing, I don't think that's it.  This is soft, even the black part.

Cassie had her surgery this morning.  Everything went well, he said the edges came together nicely.  She came home with a purple bandage she has to keep on for 2 days, which we have to try to keep dry...of course it snowed for the first time a couple days ago lol  We put one of Murphy's Pawz boots on it the couple of times she's gone out & it's covered the dressing well, but it seems to bother her.  We're going to try just a baggie next time in case it's putting too much pressure on the incision.  She has Carprofen for the next couple of days and antibiotics.  We should get the histology back some time next week.

Thanks for all your prayers!

Glad to hear that things went well.  If the baggy thing doesn't work ask for an empty iv bag from your vet.  cut open one end and put holes in the side.  String some gauze string through it and tie it shut.  It works perfect.  My vet did that when we had to wrap Bosch's foot and keep it dry.

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Thanks everyone!

Michelle - that's a great idea!  I work today, so I can bring an empty bag home.  I'm sure there will be one at some point lol  The baggie is working ok...Murphy keeps barking at us when we put it on or take it off - I guess because we're messing with her, it's pretty funny, except at 5am big-blink

Hi Donna, boy do I know the stress of visiting Dr. Google! I was convinced Nitro had bladder cancer or kidney failure about a month ago after I visited this evil doctor! As medical people, we HAVE to know the explanation of EVERYTHING, don't we? Shortly after his amp surgery, Nitro developed a small-ish red-ish lump between his toes that I was sure was a MCT. Turned out it was just a little growth that had bacteria and junk in it, that eventually away after some antibiotics. It'll be  huge relief to have it gone and get some answers. I have zero insight as to what it is or what's causing it unfortunately, but I'm with you in spirit. Paws crossed it is just an expensive "hair folicle"!

Paula and Nitro

Nitro 11 1/2  yr old Doberman; right front amp June 2014. Had 6 doses carboplatin, followed by metronomic therapy. Rocked it on 3 legs for over 3 years! My Warrior beat cancer, but couldn't beat old age. He crossed the Bridge peacefully on July 25, 2017, with dignity and on his terms.  Follow his blog entitled "Doberman's journey"

Yes Michelle! We used that very apparatus when Nitro had a toe amputated when he was about 3 years old. It worked so good, was easy to apply, and kept it clean and dry. Glad she came through it good.

You are all the best!

We took her dressing off today and it looks great.  She was restless last night and hogged the bed, so I didn't sleep very well way-confused  lol

I might give her some tramadol instead of the other stuff, see if maybe it gives better coverage.  The vet's office said she could have that twice a day instead of the once a day for the Carprofen.  She looks so pitiful when she stands/walks & touches it to the floor what-ever
