My precious baby, Blue, was recently diagnosed with Chondrosarcoma in the rear leg. The affected leg was amputated Tuesday, July 11. Blue, who just turned three years old, is a rescue from a cruelty case. Blue's non-cancerous leg was shattered and had to be rebuilt with plates and screws, twice.
I am new to a cancer diagnosis and amputation in a pet. I would appreciate any and all information from others who have a dog with this diagnosis. Additionally, any advice to help a newly amputated dog with an existing weak leg would be very helpful. While I hate that this has happened, I cannot express my sincere gratitude for this site.
Hi Angela and Blue, welcome. I'm on my phone now but wanted to get your post approved so others can chime in asap. I'll be back tomorrow but till then be sure to check out Jerry's Required Reading List for many answers to your questions. Back soon!

What a good heart you have for rescuing Blue. He's been through a lot and is so lucky to have you. I am relatively new to Tripawds too. My Bella had her left front leg amputated in March.
This site is amazing. So much support and great information. It has gotten me through so many tough times. Let us know how Blue is doing. Take care.
Angela, you may want to consider making an appointment with a certified canine rehab therapist. They can make such a difference for a dog in Blue's situation. The best part is the Tripawds Foundation will even pay for your first rehab visit !
Also, here's a post about chondrosarcoma that you may find helpful:

A gela, thank you for taking Blue into your heart and your home. He's really been through a lot...You both have. No matter what though.....no matter what.....Blue knows what it feels like to be loved now!
Sorry you find yourself here, but we're all here to help in anyway we can. You certainly are NOT alone, okay??
So you're almost a week into recovery, is that right? How is Blue doing? Is his pain being managed? Eating, drinking, pooping, peeing?
Right now it's all about rest and short leashed potty breaks. No jumping, no stairs, no running, no long walks. If you have hardwood floors, make sure you have non slip scatter rugs for traction .
Give us an update when you can. And we woukd love to see photos!! His avatar is adorable!
Hugs!
