Hello i send you a msg. but I have just researched about electrochemotherapy and might be a choice for your pup. I dont think there are any locations in Alaska but there are in California and I think in Canada. it looks super promising and am currently looking into it for my girls. STS (soft tissue sarcoma). see my forum with links and info.

@neka03, thank you! I've bookmarked the links!

@benny55, Booger is a girl. 🙂 But she says it's an easy mistake... both she and her sister Autumn pee like boys, heisting a hind leg and marking things. 🙂

Has your vet mentioned the possibility of metronomic chemotherapy to try and slow the regrowth of the tumor? If not I would mention it to them.

I am in awe at Booger's age and how active he is and how young he looks.

I will tell you that if you ever reconsidered amputation, that no prosthetic would be necessary.  In fact I think that my husky would refuse to use it, as she is doing just fine thanks!!  She has that husky pride and attitude and will do it her way, on her time, and she is wowing me every day.

I was surprised that radiation, at least according to the oncologist, required they put them under for each treatment, and they were talking that if it was necessary they would do it 5 days a week for there weeks.  It freaked me out that she would in and out every day.

I am glad that the surgery went well and I am sure Booger is ready to get back to normal.

@sbarnett, thank you for your kind words! Booger has recovered fine from her surgery, and we are out hiking again! Amputation is still on the table as an option, if our vet ever advises against debulking the tumor over and over. As for daily anesthesia, WOW I had no idea about that either! Thanks for letting me know... Now I'm even more certain that we made the right decision for our Booger bug.

Just because she is so cute, here is a photo of her with her sisters, during a break on our first hike post-surgery. Booger did NOT like her activity restriction rules! Ten days is a LONG time!

Booger is front right. Her sister, Autumn, is beside her. Both are 16! Behind them both is Starbuck-a-Roo, our young'un. She's only 8.

Harmony became a Tripawd on 10/21/14 (MCT). She left us way too soon on 11/1/14.

Hello everyone,

You probably don't remember me as I only popped in on this one thread, then popped out. I wanted to thank you again for all of your kindness, and let you know that Booger is still doing 95% awesome at the ripe age of 17... still bouncing around the yard like a baby goat! The tumor is still coming back (the vet has removed it two more times after the July surgery referred to above). It is not metastatic, but it never fully goes away either... now the tumor is back again and growing rapidly, and the vet says there is no more room for surgery, so we're going to make Booger into a tripod after all. The vet has agreed that even at 17, she's in remarkable health and vigor, and it'd be a damned shame to let her go over this leg!

So her surgery is tomorrow. Please wish us luck, and let me know if you have any tips for her recovery!

Best Regards,

Arvay, Booger, and her sisters Autumn and Starbuck 🙂

OF COURSE WE REMEMBER THE ASTOUNDING AND AMAZING MISS BOOGER!!!! Heroes like Booger always stay in our hearts and minds!!

To hear she is a vibrant 17 yrs young now and has been living life to the fullest is spectacular!!

No matter what...and this is what we all tell ourselves when we get to the surgery "forced" decision....we've done everything possible..EVERYTHING! We all find comfort in that.

Clearly Booger has already handled being somewhat of a tripawd already with all her previous surgeries! Such an amazing girl...with an amazing human!!

Will co e back with more recovery tips in a bit, as will others. Just wanted to say hello again a, d send you all best wishes in the world!

CHEERING FOR YOU BOOGER! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Love to all!

What an amazing, inspirational story,  I joined after you, so read through your whole post.  Seventeen, and still active!  Just amazing.  Good luck tomorrow - we will be thinking about Booger and your pack.  (Do I dare ask how she got her name?)

Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016.  Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016.  Lung mets August 25, 2016.  Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016.   Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.

Wherever they are, they are together.

@otisandtess: Her real name is Linden. She came to me with that name. All of my dogs are retired from recreational sledding teams, so they came with names. But Linden's always been such a gooberdy boogerdy goober booger silly pants that we took to calling her Booger. Autumn is the height of dignity and gets no nickname. 🙂 Starbuck is called Roo since she says, "Roooooo". 🙂
