just a little update. Spencer is waking up. I could hear him whining in the background. I have never heard him sound like that. :-( haven't talked to the vet yet, just the surgical tech. She said Spencer is fine if she sits with him, she just wanted to come give me a quick call and then she will go back and sit with him again. The vet should be calling me soon.

OfflineGood new so far. Don't get too freaked out by hearing him whine- remember how many strong drugs he has coursing through his system.
Let us know what the vet says.

OfflineOh- and if you allow me to put on my moderator hat for a moment…
You might consider starting a new thread in the Treatment and Recovery forum, especially when you bring Spencer home. It does make it a little easier for other members to keep up with Spencer's progress.
Karen
The unusual whining during emergence from anesthesia is a normal effect of several anesthetic agents, particularly if their antagonist has either worn off or not been given. They will give him something if it continues…he's received agents that cause amnesia, so he shouldn't be afraid.

OfflineTry not to let the whining worry you. But from what I remember – that may not be possible, haha. They sound so forlorn when they're going through that. Yoda had never made that sound before either and it lasted a couple days after I had brought him home. Yoda's vets referred to it as "vocalizing" (to make it sound nicer, I guess) and it's apparently a common reaction to some of the pain meds they get – totally normal and not from pain! The vet showed me how I could gently pat Yoda's bandage and see that he didn't react to it, to reassure myself he wasn't in pain, the meds were doing their job. The drugs just make them feel whiny apparently. Poor pups.
