Yeah, that onsie is a good idea! It may also be a good motivator to get up off his butt!

Something to try...is there a friend or family who Quinn just loves who could come to the house...knock on the door and then go bat crazy happy to see Quinn? Maybe they could bringh im a very special treat and try and get him to follow them for the treat. Perhaps just someone knocking at the door really loudly may make him get up.

Yeah, it seems to me if he wants to lay on the incision a bit that's okay. I actually think it's a good sign...the incision must not be too painful or else he wouldn't lay on it.

Does he show any sign of pain...tensing up...when you massage him, going up and down his back...any sign of pinched nerve or anything like that that would make him not want to stand up? And you do have traction ...non skid rugs, right?

You are doing everything righ! Quinn will get the hang of things! It is still VERY early in recovery from a MAJOR surgery! With every single improvement, every single tail wag and kiss, you will soon recognize you did this FOR Quinn...not TO him!! We are all here for you!

Look forward to next update!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone! Its day seven and Quinn is fine, just a little glitch yesterday, but we did it. Benny thank you. No Quinn doesn't flinch or moan in pain when I massage him. He does have some arthritis though. I have been giving him a supplement to help that which is call Dasaquinn, the vet said that he has seen remarkable results with it, but it takes about 5 to 6 weeks to see improvement. He's on week 3.

A onsie sounds like a good idea. I take care of people with special disabilities and we have a stock pile of them. I was also thinking maybe a pull up or diaper (opened and taped around incision site might work) I also have a ton of those available.

I also need to tell you a little bit about Quinn, since he has been seven weeks old any minor scrape, scratch, trip, or stumble would send Quinn into a fit where you would think he was dying. I rushed him to the vet so many times when he was a puppy because he would just scream (sounded like a woman screaming) just to find out he was fine. He played me all the time. One time we were up north in Michigan visiting my aunt. He was about 5 or 6 mos. old. We were walking down the steps, he tripped on the very last step. He cried and cried, while sitting on my lap. One of the kids there dropped popcorn on floor, once he noticed it he slowly scooted off my lap and ran to it. He was fine. So it may take my boy a minute to get up. I know this is a major major surgery, but he is going to play this for a long time. However we are looking into a cart.

Yes I have carpeting in my house where Quinn is right now. We a have a rubber back throw by front door. Plus Quinn will not even attempt going in kitchen even with assistance if the throw rugs are not down. We have been taking him out front door to use bathroom, there is more steps but for some reason he will not go down the three steps to back door. He is using his front legs, and hopping on his back leg, as long as we assist him and hold his back end up.

He seems to be doing great this morning. Everyone is coming for Thanksgiving dinner today so he should have a good day today and it is his favorite holiday.lol

Ohhhh OK that explains a lot about Quinn! Well heck, at least you know that about his pawsonality. Some dogs are just like that, and that's OK, you'll both get through it although with a little more ups and downs. You're doing everything right, so keep it up. I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Sorry guys but once again I'm worried. Ok today an area on sutures began leaking a tinged clear liquid. Should I be worried. His sutures look good, no smell at all, and they don't appear to hurt him when I apply the antibiotic ointment. Just leaking this clear liquid tinged with a little blood. I sent vet a picture with description, because right now it's to hard for me to get him in car to take back and forth. The harness should be here hopefully tomorrow so that will make it easier. I'm trying to stay calm but I'm freaking out inside. I don't want him to move at all at this point but it's getting increasingly harder to keep him from moving.

Yes, you can calm down...no worries!

Now, Im no vet, HOWEVER, ia bit of leakge...no pus...no huge amount of blood...no horrid smell...shou@d NOT be anything to be worried about.

Everything else good? Eating, drinking, no fever, acting okay overal. (considering he's just a week out of major surgery!)?

If he feels comfortable enough to want to get up and just move around for a short bit should be okay. He lrobably needs to feel a small sense of "normalcy" in his routine right about now.

YOU'RE DOING GREAT!!! Come here to freak out anytime...we all do!!!!!

Smart to send the vet a picture......you are such a good advocate!!

Okay....DEEP BREATHS.....DEEP, DEEP BREATHS.....AND HANDFULS OF CHOCOLATE!!!!

Thanks Sally. I think I'm reading to much online. No answers are ever the same. And yes I'm eating chocolate pie right now. I was just looking at it again and there's like a blister the size of a nickel right under suture, that's were it's seeping from. I described it to vet when I sent picture. It doesn't appear to hurt him, I touched it and it's more flat then swollen but seeping (like a blister that has a small hole in it). No smell at all though.

Yes he is eating, and drinking, everything appears to be as normal as possible, except he is giving me such a hard time taking his meds now. I have put them in everything, finely worked when I hid them in a deviled egg.

Oh gosh...Dr. Google loves Tripawd members! We google the heck out of him! And most of the time he scares us for no good reason!!! And you are so right....no two answers are the same!

Could be an irritation related more to the stitches. just keep an eye on it....let us know what the vet said based on the pocture and your description

You are very observant...you'll notice if it starts getting worse...angrier...more like an open abcess (which can happen and be easily treated). Again, not a vet!

NO MORE GOOGLING FOR THE NIGHT, Okay?????

Give Quinn a great big smooch on his mug!....And a big hug to you! You're doing just fine!!

That sounds like a seroma to me (click on the link for info). It's not uncommon and a ot of dogs and cats have it happen. Usually not a big deal, it's just bodily fluid draining and as long as it's more watery than bloody, and doesn't smell or feel hot it's probably just that. But do let your vet know as you did and try not to worry. Let us know what happens tomorrow OK?

Well today is 8th day and early this morning the site started to bleed. Thank God the harness came this morning, I called UPS early this morning and they put a medical emergency on it and a man delivered it in his car about 45 mins later. I got Quinn in car and went to vet. The vet said it was unusual for stitches to break after seven days, but from what he said that appears to be the case. Three or four internal stitches he was guessing. He said he would have to reopen that area and see what's going on and re-stitch. Wow what a night. Thank goodness the harness fit because I just threw it on and out the door we went. It worked really well. So Quinn is back at the vets and the doctor said he would take care of it, but hoped the tissue didn't die back there. So I'm staying positive and will start again. The vet said he might have to give me medication to keep him calm, but really didn't want to do that cause it makes them not want to eat. I don't know but Quinn is stubborn and I know he will keep trying to scoot any chance he gets. Please send prayers. Thanks everyone.

Geez, you poor thing! But you certainly know how to act in an emergency. Bravo for you and Quinn. Sounds like he is in good hands so now you can sit down drink wine and eat chocolate, that's what we all do (for any reason). Hang in there.

Holy moly! You have had your share of hurdles, th a t's for sure! And YAY for UPS for getting that harness to you right away! Imw so glad it worked so well!

Okay, as scary as this is...it does happen.....it shouldn't, especially with as restricted as Quinn has been........but it does. You were so diligent and observant and really caught this right away. Hopefully the tissue is in good shape...but if not.....it's just another part of this roller coaster ride that IS fixabke!!

Now Quinn has some more recovering to do, but it won't be nearly as bad as recovery from the amputation surgery!

If you are up to it, update us after the vet has done his magic. In the meant i me, NOW would be a great rime to try and take a nap!!! Quinn is resting comfortable and in the best place to be right now. So try and get a nice little snooze yourself. This is a very intense and emotional time leading up to, and enduring recovery.

Quinn will be feeling better now that this is being fixed...maybe not I instantly, but soon!!

Wrapping you up in cozy hugs.....

Geez you guys have had it so ruff, I'm really sorry! Ugh. Well I know I keep saying this a lot, but it's not unusual for stuff like this to happen, we've seen it happen occasionally. It sucks and it's not a good time but when you catch things early like this they can be resolved quickly and with a lot less pain for everyone. Sounds like the vet is on top of this and Quinn is in great care. You are both in our thoughts and we're sending lots of love your way. Keep us posted.

We are glad to hear the harness arrived and it fit. Whew! There's a good thing that happened. (Never thought of calling up the USPS to ask for a medical emergency delivery on an express mail package, smart move!).

Ok just heard from vet, GOOD NEWS!!! It was just drainage everything else looks really good. Vet put a drainage tube in and Quinn is staying the night so the vet can check him in morning. Oh my goodness I'm on an emotional roller coaster. Up, down, up, down I don't know how you all survived this. So tonight I am going to take the advice you all gave me and relax, drink wine, eat chocolate, get a good nights sleep. I think I have been up now for over 24 hours, was up at 4am yesterday preparing turkey. Very long day, but it all went well after all. Thanks your prayers were heard.

As everyone has said the first three weeks are like a roller coaster. Sounds like Quinn is doing fine. We have all had nerve wracking set backs and that is par for the course.  Try and get some rest.
