Yey Xena!  Sorry, mom.  Bummer.  But YEY XENA!  I'm SO glad chemo "ain't no thang" for you!  It's fabulous!

~ Katy

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12.  Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ!  No side effects.  We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments.  He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors!  Our love. Hey guys,

As much as i love this is page after everything we have been through the last two years i really hoped i wouldnt be back on here! But my Xena started vomiting around a month ago, back and forth between home and the vets and now today i finally pushed them which i wish i had done weeks ago, to please do her something more than a blood test. And they have done a xray and ultrasound and have bought up a mass by her stomach, its rather large and i feel sick that i didnt push them to look for answers earlier and feel like the pushed me aside by saying it was a stomach bug. They have put her on a drip today and said this will last her til monday and they want to see her tuesday for us to make a decision. I feel just rubbish thinking there is nothing else i can do for her. she is so full of life still, and i know its almost two years since we went through this but it seems just like yesterday and we just arent ready to loose her, even though we knew this day would come. The vet has said he can operate but doesnt think its fair on Xena as she will be 9 in Feb and said that he feels after the last surgery its not fair. Can someone please give me some opinions or options? or maybe someone who has been through this what happened with you? Once again i feel lost in emotions, and after dealing with my little Lily and her heart condition, i feel like this should be an easy decision but i just cant stop thinking that shes still a fighter and has so much life left in her. Shes cant eat for herself as the mass is so large its pressing on her stomach making her feel like shes always full, and she being sick without wanting too. i dont want her to suffer for one moment but i dont want to give up on her. She hasnt lost any weight through being sick still a healthy 27 kilos, a front left amputee and deals so well. If we go ahead with the op the vet seems to think she will only be on borrowed time and it wont be long before we are back. But when i think back he was also very anti the first op and if we had of given up then we wouldnt of had these two extra amazing years with her!

Thanks again but any opinions would help.

Chloe and Xena <3 xx

Chloe and Xena, my heart aches for you, I'm sorry that you got this bad news. First, don't beat yourself up. You are doing the very best you can and Xena knows that. Things happen that are out of our control and all we can do is take things one day at a time and don't look back.

Now, take a minute to breathe, collect your thoughts and try to assess what you want to do next. My choice, if this were me dealing with it, would be to get a second opinion from a cancer specialists. That way you not only know that you've covered every angle, but it could lead to better news that your vet might have overlooked. I hope that there is something that can be done. I know Monday is just around the corner for you but if there's any way to see a vet that day, why not?

Give Xena a hug from us, she is such a remarkable cancer hero and an amazing girl. And give our love to your human baby too, you're an awesome Mom.

Ditto to Jerry's reply n and Shanna's on your other post.

So is Xena having the drip done at the vets or is it something you are able to do at home?

And probably every vet would make an assu m ption that a tummy upset was involved at first, considering her overall attitude is so great, so please don't waste any energy on second guessing.. it robs you of your time together now!!

This is such a tough spot to be in, but, if possible, try for a second opinion on the surgery.

We're all here with you and sending you strength and clarity. You know Xena best. I know yo j are so conflicted....this is a hard spot for you right now, but you will do what's best for Xena,....whatever that may be..... because you always hsve!

Sending love,

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle too!

Morning,

I have had a chat with my family and i think we are going to get a second opinion from another vet first on monday and then if he says the same im going to ask them to operate Tuesday, if they go in and find it is cancer and its too much for her, im going to ask them to put her to sleep whilst she is under anesthetic. She such a strong girlie, and coped so well with the operation and also with the chemo after it hardly even affected her. So i hate to give up on her. What happens if i just put her to sleep and then found out it wasnt cancerous or just simply a fatty lump or something else. i couldnt live with myself. Xena was very sick last night but the swelling seems to be going down and the vet hasnt given her any pain killers or antibotics. literally just these stomach protectors, when we woke up this morning she came running across ready to eat breakfast. i was so shocked. and she ate half a bowl of rice and she hasnt been sick today so far and its 12pm now so shes done all morning without being ill. Shes going to the toilet regular and drinking water. Shes currently laid on the sofa with blankets and having a sleep, i think im going to take her for a walk this evening to stretch her legs and let her get some fresh air, with the other girls. She just seems a bit lathergic and sleepy, but shes always been a couch potato, so i dont know if im just looking for it to be a problem now and over reacting. But if i mention going for walkies shes straight up ready to go. So i think it will be nice for her to get out of the house that isnt going to the vets. Ill let you know how i get on!

Hugs and Kisses!

Chloe, and Xena <3

That sounds like a great approach.  Lots of thought into the decision.  So happy to hear she is better this morning. Hope the weekend is a good one for her and for you and that Monday is kind to you as you get that second opinion.

Continued good thoughts.  Keep us posted.
