As some of you may know, Mackenzie  was diagnosed with the start of lung mets 3 months ago.  We started her on a new chemo protocol which includes palladiam and cytaxin (alternating each day).  Her first month's x-rays back in July showed that her lung mets (4 nodules)  remained the same in size - did not grow and 1 nodule even shrunk in size by half.  Well as you can imagine, we were esctastic.   So the vet recommended we do another chest x-ray in 2 months which brings us to yesterday.  She had her chest x-ray and the oncologist was very happy to report that everything looks "stabalized" no changes from 2 months ago....no additional lung mets that they could find and the lung mets she has did not increase in size again and 1 actually shrunk in size again.  I was so happy to hear this news! I was so worried about this check up - of course thinking the worst and hoping for the best.   We did find a 2nd cancerous lump on Mackenzie's hip but it may have been there for awhile now.  It looks pretty self-contained so we're just going to watch it.  The other lump she has that was found 3 months ago hasn't increased in size and feels like maybe it's shrunk a little bit too.

What this tells us is that this new drug palladiam in combination with the cytaxin is  helping to slow down this cancer.  Over a 3 month period and to not show any changes, is very positive.  My oncologist is using this more now and finding similar results with other dogs.  It's very expensive as I've mentioned before but this month I got another donated batch! Yea! It was definitely our lucky day yesterday.

So now I can breathe a sigh of relief.....   I have to go on a business trip next week and was worried about leaving Mackenzie behind but now I can feel good and know that she's going to be ok.

My husband and I went to Hawaii last week (island of Kauai) and saw many beautiful things including rainbows almost every day.  So here's a couple of photos I took that I wanted to share.  It brought such peace to me when I saw these rainbows because it confirmed for me what I always knew- that our tripawd heros whom we've lost and who are now at the bridge are alll peacefully surrounded by these magnificent rainbows, all of this beauty and all of this love.   Very comforting....

Here's to all of our tripawd heroes running free at the rainbow bridge!

My sweet golden Mackenzie.  She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2  although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home.  She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009.  She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes.  I love you Mackenzie!

That is pawesome news!

It's great to hear that Mackenzie is doing well, and more importantly, is beating cancer for now.

Mackenzie,

What wonderful news this is and we will just have to have a celebration. Everytime they make these advances it is great. Probably is why Mom and Dad support the Morris Foundation. We will be praying that you will be getting future new that is at least this good.

Tell you mom that we know about the rainbows in Kauai and were glad that they were able to catch some. Mom & Dad go over every year for a couple of weeks and rotate amongst the islands and resorts. Last year I was able to go along in March - one of the only advantages to being a spirit. We got so see the humpback whales and boy was it awesome. We even got to see a baby that was only hours old on one of our whale watch cruses. Boy is that a BIG BABY!!!

Also, we hope that you are surviving all this heat. Can you imagine that Mom and Dad drove all the way to Long Beach and back, yesterday in the heat. Personally, I prefer the fog that we have been getting for most of the summer. Highs in the low to mid 80's with nights in the upper 50's. Now thats the life.

So stay cool - the cooling is on the way, enjoy life to the fullest and keep on kicking this cancer. There will be an eternity for us to share stories over here - definately no rush. I'll just keep monitoring all this great news over Dad shoulder.

Kami, sounds like you and Mackenzie are livin' good, great news. I know that feeling when you get those kind of reports, you feel like you need to tie something on your ankles to keep you grounded, plus it helps you sleep better. Big paws up to both of you, Spirit Gus and Dan

My buddy Gus had a left front amputation on April 7, 2010 and lived a great life until July 26,2010

So happy to read of your promising news. Yes you have had a very lucky day. I am wondering about the donation of chemo treatments. Is this a program you belong to? Is it someone from the Vet's office? A drug company? That is a fantastic gift to give to someone, you have and angel supporting your sweet Mackenzie!

Thank you for sharing the rainbow photos and nice words for the heroes.

I can't tell you how happy I am that Ruthie's palladia may have been some help!  It's so nice to cry out of happiness for once on this site.

Carry on Mackenzie!

Mackenzie and family – That is FANTASTIC news. Really really good news that the pesky mets are currently under arrest. Did I say amazing?

Palladium was discussed quite a bit shortly after we first arrived on this site (summer of 2009), but I haven't heard of any one with OSA mets using it. This is sure to be useful info for others.

Keep it up kiddo!

Pat- you bet Ruthie's palladia helped! I used your very generous donation last month.  I just realized that it's palladia (thanks Pat)  not pallidiam - why I keep calling it pallidiam I'll never know.  Again, thanks so so much!  JD's mom, some of these donations are given by the cancer hospital I take Mackenzie to (unless you can find an angel like Pat and  Ruthie) They're usually meds that are close to expiring or have just expired so they donate them which is a big relief because this particular drug is very expensive.  Pat was so kind to give me her palladia she had for Ruthie which really helped out last month.  And then this month, the hospital gave me a donated batch.  I feel like I won the lottery!

Spirit Cherry - that must have been amazing to see the whales.  We got to see dolphins and I thought that was magical.  It's really paradise there.  And no, I can't believe that your parents drove in this extreme heat to Long Beach.  It was 109 where I lived yesterday.  You probably passed right by.

Tazzie - just wanted to mention that palladia recently has been shown to be very responsive against OSA too in addition to another type of cancer (which I can't remember at the moment) so this is very encouraging.  It's all fairly new - just within this last year that it's been FDA approved and these studies that are coming out on its effectiveness.

As always, thanks everyone for your very uplifting comments! cool

The world is brighter place tonight because of the good news about Mackenzie!  The rainbows are so incredible!  It's like the icing on the cake to a wonderful post!

I just know in my heart that Mackenzie is going to be with us for a long time and I know one of the reasons is because she has one of the best moms ever!

Give her a big giant super duper over-the-top, smothering HUG from her pals in Las Vegas!  And throw one in for Kobe, too!

Man oh man, Kami, what fantastic news!! I just couldn't be happier for you and Mackenzie. It really does give all the rest of us out here a reason to believe. Thank you, and of course that shout out goes to Pat and Ruthie, and all the others out there who are kind enough to share despite their loss.

Wonderful, wonderful news. Lincoln is doing a little jig. Actually, he just burped right in my face, but that's pretty funny too. He's such a boy, but I'm sure he's celebrating as only a boy dog can!!

Whoooohoooooo!
