LOVE LOVE LOVE this boy! Oh Cassie what a huge and wonderful thing you've done for him, and for all of us. You have educated us with your bravery to pursue this procedure (what's it called again?) and now we know that animals can be happy after it's done. Thank you for opening all of our eyes!

It's great to see your boy. As if he couldn't get any more adorable.

P.S. Is Convenia an anti-nausea drug?

Haha, a total hemimandibulectomy. Which is taking the entirety of one whole side of the lower jaw.

And yes Convenia is for nausea. He had an injection during surgery, but it only lasts for 24 hours. And so far today, no burps!

Cassie,

Thank you so much for posting and I don't know how I missed this whole thread.  I am glad he is doing well.  You can't even tell he is missing his jaw.  He looks great.  Praying for good news with the biopsy.

He looks good for going through another major surgery.

Thank you all for your kind words!!! Domino is continuing to do great! He doesn't seem to be in any pain and the swelling is almost completely gone. He has his recheck with his surgeon next Tuesday the 3rd and by then we should have biopsy results.

I still can't get over how well he's been doing. He now sleeps without his cone of shame (mainly because he's in bed with me lol) and I let him go without it when I can be right there with him, and he hasn't bothered his face once! He should be done with his antibiotic tomorrow and done with his tramadol by Saturday, so after that he'll just be on rimadyl and gabapentin. So I'm hoping his pain stays well maintained.

I'm also still overwhelmed by the amount of people that seem to care about and love Domino! I get asked at least once a day at work how he's doing, and I even got a card from a friend yesterday about him. So thanks to all of you for your support!! Until next time 😁

Cassie and crooked faced Domino 😉

Hey all.

i wish I was posting with better news. Domino had his follow up this morning and we got the biopsy results. Osteosarcoma. I’ve heard the word a million times but today it’s not sinking in. She said she expects about 6-8 months, maybe more. For now he’s happy and he’s comfortable and he doesn’t know there’s anything wrong. I still don’t really know what to think. Radiation and chemo are out of the question cost wise. For now I’m going to love him, if it was possible to love him more than before.

Oh my Cassie.  I am so so so sorry.  I hate this effing disease.  You know we are all with you.  I am sitting here crying my eyes out.   I am thinking of you.  Please call the helpline Sally is on duty today.  He doesn't know he is sick.  Just love him and try as you can put it out of your mind.  Live for the moment.  Don't grieve him before he is gone or you will miss out on so much.  Do fun things with him.

This effing mother disease.  I hate it.  I have so much cursing I want to do but I can't do it here

Cassie  - I'm not here much anymore but I am soooooo sad to learn this. It is simply tragic and unfair. But like Michelle said - he doesn't know he is sick AND those statistics don't mean anything! Enjoy and love each day to the fullest... it is all we can do.

We will be here to support you and whatever you need!

Sending you love!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Unfair piece of s**t disease.   Rotten news.

One  of the first thing s that came to my mind though....DOMINO IS A ONE OF A KIND DOG who is incredibly STRONG...STRONG WILLED AND DETERMINED!!!!   We talk so often about  dogs like Domino not being a statistic.  We say that because we've seen one of a kind dogs like Domino proof statistics wrong.   You know that!  You've seen it!  You've even met some of the dogs at the Tripawd Pawties who have done that!!

When you can get in a better place mentally, do so e research into other options along  tne holistic route.  Do me, it seems odd that osteo presents itself in the jaw like that.  Maybe you can do searhes here and see what comes up.  I'm sure Rene will give you some links.

Yeah, I'm not sure how it is possible to love that sweet boy more!!   We've seen the bond first hand!!   But I know you could find a few more ways to spoil him somehow...maybe...possibly???  Thi gs @ike ice cream and Puppicinnos might be a good start!

As you know, none of this means swuat to Domino and he certainly has no intention of going anywhere anytime soon!!!   I'm just so glad that Domino was at YOUR Vet the day his owners were going to put him down. You jave given Domino the best life he has ever known...and continues to know!!!

This. So much this.

Overall, I did well being more dog, but there were times I let the anticipatory grief get the best of me. Those are the times I wish I had back now.

You'll have plenty of time to grieve when he's gone; live life to the fullest with him now.
