i feel like every time I make a decision another obstacle get put in our way.  And I don't know what to be the most worries about.   Still waiting on hearing back from the Radiologist about Kara's x-rays etc. I showed the vet a lump on her back leg and she got some cells and looked at them and told me she has Mass Cell Tumor. And once I got home I noticed she had a bumpy mass growing on her gums and a hard bumpy mass in her mouth.  Right now I wish I went to vet school so I could fix my baby. 😭

It's hard not to worry, of course you are. But as we say around here, try not to panic until you know what you are dealing with. You'll have more news soon and then you and your vet can come up with a plan to treat mast cell cancer, which is very tricky but also quite manageable in many cases.

Information and education about the type of cancer you are facing is empowering. Here's a Tripawd Talk Radio podcast that can help you feel a bit more knowledgeable about it:

Mast Cell Cancer Basics for Tripawds with Dr. Hohenhaus

Also remember that there's a fine line between "research" and information overload. Try to balance both so that you're not missing out on spending precious quality time with your girl OK?

Keep us posted on the report.

Ditto Jerry.   It's so stressful to "hirry up and wait" when you have scary things happening.   One kf the lessons around here to to TRY and.not worry about things unless we know kthrerwise.   Even then, once you get some answers, you can be far more proactive in creating a treatment plan with your Vet and the worry actually lessens.

Lota and lots of healing energy coming your way form allmof us!   Cheering for the adorable Kara!

I loved life as a tripawd for over three years following right forelimb amputation due to an aggressive and recurrent hemangiopericytoma. I reclaimed my place among the gods and valkyries in Valhalla on November 11th, 2020. My parents miss me tremendously, but I know they'll keep me in their hearts forever... and don't worry, I've approved my mom's use of my Tripawds account.

Well I just got the call from the vet's office.  She does have Osteosarcoma and of course the next step is setting up her amputation.  As I live in a very small town and Kara has made it abundantly clear to the vets office in the past that she does not want to stay overnight.  (will not eat, use the bathroom, and gets very depressed to the point that they had me pick her up every night and bring her back every morning when she had a massive infection in her chest and neck area.) And honestly she will be mostly be by herself.  I just wonder how much time I should plan on being home with her?  Her vet will call me this evening so we can go over more details.  I'm amazingly calm about it, just glad to finally know what is hurting my precious girl.

I'm sorry about the osa diagnosis but now you have a plan, and since you've already been through some serious medical situations with Kara, you are way ahead of the game. Most of us didn't have that advantage, so that's really great, as hard as it is to prepare for this.

Yes, she is better off with you overnight, definitely!

When you talk to the vet, please go over things like what pain medication she'll come home with, what to expect from those meds and who to call if a situation comes up in the middle of the night. What was she like when she was on pain meds from the infection issue?

As for staying home. Lots of people time the amp to happen on a Thursday, pick the patient up Friday and have a long weekend together. If you can't take more than a day or two off together, do you have a friend you can call to check on her? Most dogs will just lay around and sleep all day, so if you keep her confined to a small part of your house, she should do OK.
