Cookie is a 7 year old pittie that was diagnosed with cancer. I am starting this thread for Doug to help him navigate.

Thank you angels.  Cookie is back to eating and having enough energy for her surgery. Our consult is Tuesday and I suppose that by weeks end next week she will be the newest Tri pawd.

I just keep remembering what Benny said  I am doing this FOR her and not TO Her !

That is such a true statement! I'm glad she's eating and drinking for you. You might have to spoil her a bit during this time and for a few weeks post surgery but that's ok😊 looking forward to seeing pictures of your Cookie!

Glad Jackie started the thread for you so we can better support you.

STAY CONNECTED!  We've all been through the stress of trying ro make the decision to do what's best for our pips and cats.  You're doing your research a d, once you gather all the information, you'll actually find some relief in making a decision and moving forward.

A d yes, it took me three weeks before I coukd fi ally say I did this FOR my Happy Hannah and not TO her!  For whatever it's worth, most people get to that conclusiona little sooner!

Oh, and when you do go pick her up to bri g her home, don't even look at her incision.  She won't be.  Cookie will be looking at your smiling face telling her what a good girl she is and she's going home!!  When you do take a peek later, just k ow that Surgeons @ove to shave a lot of fur!  I think that shocked me the most was how much fur they shaved!

You're doing great!   The fact that the pain meds helped her feel better and eat better does let you k ow she was hurting.  And when that painful leg is gone and recovery is gone her sparkle will be back brighter than ever! 🙂

Hugs

Hi Doug,

Sorry you and Cookie are here, but you'll find if you have to be here, it's a great place that will help a lot.

I remember when I got Rocky's diagnosis, I told my parents amputation was likely the best option.

"You can't do that to him!" my mom said.

A couple of months later, we were over at my parents' house and Rocky was running around with their dogs like it was no big deal.

"You made the right choice," my mom said. "He's so much happier now. That leg must have really been hurting him."

Dogs are amazing animals. Nobody wants to have to amputate, but you'll be amazed at how well she does on three legs.

David and Rocky (and Baxter now too!)

Rocky had his right front leg amputated on Valentine's Day 2017 after being diagnosed with osteosarcoma.

He joined the September Saints on September 3, 2017.

He is the toughest, bravest, sweetest and best friend I'll ever know.
