Thank you sooooo much for updating!!

YAY FOR BEAU!! SURGERY IS OVER!!

Yes, a lot lf times dogs stay more than one night, not unusual at all! Gives you a chance to get a good night's sleep and Beau a chance to shake off all that anesthesia.

We're here for the homecoming. So let us know how we can help. Stay connected!

Hugs!

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

Sounds like a good idea to let him stay another night. It gives the vet more time to get the pain managed and make sure Beau is doing OK.

It is hard to think that we can handle something as big as this surgery- but as it turns out we do because our pups need us to.  When I first got Maggie at 10 weeks old I couldn't bring myself to give her vaccinations.  But as each medical issue came up for her I adapted to what she needed.

You will be fine with Beau when he comes home.  Know where the vet phone number is, and have an emergency plan if your vet is not 24 hours- those will give you peace of mind.  And know that all of us have gotten through this part- and for the most part it was the most serious thing we had had to deal with.  There are a few pups who have complications, but mostly they heal up just fine.

Shelby stayed 2 nights and it was the best thing for the both of us! She had more time to get used to her new 'physique" ... and I tried to get some rest before she came home. You will do GREAT! Dogs can adapt easily and Beau will sense your energy so positive, happy, warm energy .... lots of it! And ice-cream for you! 🙂

Thank you for checking in ... I know lots of us were checking in on this post and are happy to hear your update!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Hooray for Beau!  Like everyone else, I was anxiously awaiting your post.  Glad to hear that he did well.   I never really had any wound care with Otis.  I just looked at his incision a couple of times a day to make sure it looked ok, but nothing more.  I know some dogs have different experiences, but I wouldn't worry unduly.  The best advice is to have the vets phone # so you can ask questions if something bothers you.

Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016.  Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016.  Lung mets August 25, 2016.  Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016.   Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.

Wherever they are, they are together.

So glad to hear Beau is on the way to healing! I agree, an extra night at the vet can be more restful for all of you.

When you come back with an update you can hop over to "Treatment and Recovery" and start a new topic now that he's on the mend!clap

So glad that Beau is doing well and starting to heal! Please get some rest for yourself, and stay in touch. Please keep us updated on how he's progressing. Take care-sending hugs.

Our beautiful Lily was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her front leg on 12/14/11 at age 8 and had amp on 12/16/11. She completed 5 rounds of carbo. She was so brave and kicked cancer's butt daily! She lived life fully for 4 years, 3 months, and 15 days after her amp. My angel is a warrior princess. I miss her so much.

Wow, been there . Karl is 2 months post right front amp. Due to Osteo. He is doing great and I have no regrets!! I was so nervous about bringing him home after surgery that I was hoping he'd stay another night. But when I went to see him he was totally ready to come home. He totally took the lead in his recovery and I needed to follow.I sure hope things are going ok for you and your sweetie. I was pretty sleep deprived so I slept when he slept. He had a lot of discomfort and we eventually found out that he needed to go out potty. Lol.
Hang in there, Karl is up to all kinds of mischief and we love every minute of it. These dogs are awesome!
Love and hugs,
Karl and mom Julie
