I am so, so sorry for you, Altair and the whole family. I know there is nothing I can say to ease the pain of your loss right now. It's only been 23 days since we lost Lily and I am trying to think if there was anything that has really brought me comfort during this time. Besides the company of my remaining two dogs and my family, I found SO MUCH comfort here within the Tripawds community - once you are a member of the club, and you most surely are, you won't find any strangers within this group and their level of understanding regarding this horrible disease and the heartbreak it causes cannot be found anywhere else. I hope it can provide you and your loved ones some measure of comfort as well.
Just know that you did everything you could for Altaïr and easing her suffering was the kindest gift you could give her in the end. Let the tears flow and take all the time you need.

Lily the Great Dane (she was actually a lot more than just "Great") joined our family as an ornery puppy on December 20, 2005 and changed our lives forever. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in early May of 2014 and her right rear leg was amputated on May 8, 2014. She sailed through 5 rounds of Carboplatin and 15 weeks of Pallladia. She hopped on 3 legs like she was born to it and continued to fight cancer with grace, valor and an abundant sense of humor...and always a *giant* smile on her face. Lily had two small nodules on her lungs but was brought short by a brain tumor in late December, 2014. Oh I am sooooo sorry... it is the hardest thing in the world but you released Altair from the pain of the old and tired body and earned a guardian angel. Stay close with us... we are ALL here for you. Always!

October 15, 2000 to April 8, 2014
Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
I am sorry as well for your loss of your precious Altair. Just know that she is at the Rainbow Bridge and she's young and healthy again. She was definitely greeted by all the Tripawds that have gone before her and she is welcomed into the pack even though she hadn't had time to make it through the procedure. I find knowing that my Tripawd boy Leland will be waiting there to greet me when it's my time to leave this earth just as Altair will be waiting there for you.

Oh my gosh I just saw your update and my heart broke, sorry just isn't enough to express how badly I feel that she has passed. There's no need to apologize for not writing sooner, I know this must be so hard for all of you, what an awful shock. Cancer is just so mean and nasty. Ugh.
Take your time healing and when you feel like you are strong enough to share more memories of her life with you, we want to hear them OK? Those photos you posted earlier are sooooo pretty, I'm sure she had lots of other great adventures didn't she?
You gave Altair all the love and companionship and care that any dog could ask for, no pup could be luckier than to have you for a family. She is in heaven now but she is never gone from your heart, her spirit surrounds you every day.
