Hi Holly, Steve and Diheart

Really thrilled to hear the news of how well Holly is doing, you are such a loving family !

As for the pain killers I agree with Sally, it is major surgery so surely it hurts a lot.

Don't forget our fluffies are experts at hiding pain from us but in this case it is bound to hurt!

Sending you a big hug and cuddles to sweet Holly heart

Eurydice 77kg/170lb Great Dane limping end of April 2016, amputation (right front leg/osteosarcoma) 4 May 2016 6 courses of carboplatin followed by metronomic therapy, lung mets found 30 Nov 2016. 3 courses of doxorubicin, PET scan 26 Jan 2017 showed more mets so stopped chemo. Holistic route April 2017. Lung X-ray 5 May 2017 showed several tennis ball size mets, started cortisone and diuretics. Miss Cow earned her XXL silver wings 12 June 2017, 13 months and 1 week after amputation and 6 1/2 months after lung mets, she was the goofiest dawg ever and is now happily flying from cloud to cloud woof woofing away :-)

Well Holly has been to see the vet and he is really happy with her.  However I am worried.  I know she has had major surgery but she seems so quiet.  Is this normal?  All she does is sleep and only occasionally shows any interest.  If this is the norm then I am happy but just don't know what to expect.  She is eating her dads fish and drinking which is good as I am getting all her medication down her but this lack of interest is concerning me.

Can someone advise me how to add pictures and then I can post her in her babygro.

Oh gosh try not to worry. This is pretty normal behavior and pain medications also contribute. At least she's not doing the opposite, like Hank! Did you see his blog post? Pretty funny stuff there. Of course if you're worried, let your vet know what's going on. But as we say here, if they're drinking and eliminating, it's probably just fine. Rest is medicinal, so keep that in mind.

Here are instructions for adding images to the forums. If you'd like assistance just bark at us OK? We're happy to help.

OMD! Please don't worry! You said it, she has had major surgery. I think I would be pretty quiet two days after a leg amputationbig-grin

Ditto what Jerry said. All Holly needs to do right now is sleep, eat, pee, and poop, and then repeat, with an emphasis on sleep! She will perk up soon! If your vet is happy with the way things are going then that is a good sign. Remember, if you are worried then Holly will pick up on it and worry too so try and keep the worry at bay when you are around her. The first two weeks of recovery can be rough and you may have some ups and downs but our GSDs are tough (I have 3 tripawd GSDs, all rear leg amps) and she should get through just fine. Pretty soon, as Sally says, Holly will get her sparkle back and be her happy self again.

And we want to see those pics!!

Love the photo.  She looks great!

Well we are 5 days post op and she is coping really well on three legs.  She is eating and drinking well but sleeps most of the day which I assume is normal.  One thing I have noticed over the last couple of days is that when she gets up after a long sleep she cries for about 30 seconds.  We cuddle her and it stops so I am not sure if it reassurance she is after or in pain.  How will I know if she is in pain? Before her op she couldn't settle and was up and down so I knew she was unhappy but now she sleeps really well and just randomly cries at us then stops and goes back to sleep.  Any ideas?  Thanks Steve and Di
