Jambo Paka Tom & Mama

we are sooooo happy that the 🚰💦🚰💧🚰🌊 is working! We've gone through a lot of 💦 in the last week, but that's okay 'cause our taps are fed from a beautiful spring. Keep up the good work buddy!

You have got two mrembo Paka superstars teaching you all the right moves Tom! You are one lucky fella! Although Mona was as little messy in her business, she's showing you that no matter what, pee where the peeing feels good! 😂 She's gorgeous isn't she?!blushheart

And Purrkins, well he's a true professional isn't he?! He was so stylin in his outfits, could have been a runway model! Oh and the relaxed look on his face with the heat compresses...rasberry Maybe that's why he can climb mount Everest on a daily basis! (Have you seen his rockin' stairs dude?! Like far out! He's one lucky fella too!) I think you look just as mtanashati as Purrkins in your new shirt!aw-shucks Can't wait to see you in your onesie!

On top of everything else, you have to deal with fleas?! You poor things! Does your vet have any suggestions as to how to take care of all the bedding and such, without flea bombing your whole house?

I had to laugh when you said that Paka Tom hides his pills... my old boy Odus used to do that and he would hold them in his mouth for ages! I outsmarted him with the pill popper...

here is a picture of my pill popper with a Gabapentin pill in it, just to show you how it holds the pills. It is a soft rubber on the end holding the pill. It very safe to use and you can get the pill further back into their mouth without having you fingers chewed off! (I hope the image shows

Spike was supervising while taking the picture, that's whose feet you can see in the image! And yes, he has actually passed out twice due to the vet experience! We think that, because he is in Renal failure,(very common for old cats) his blood pressure is high and the stress is too much for him! It was really frightening... the first time it happened, I thought I had lost him right there!what-ever

A million tons of Upendo coming back your way Paka Tom and Mama, we are all so very proud of you! Tripawd power!

Sloppy kisses from Stewie👅🐾
& all the very best from his adoring pack,
Petra, Paul, & his feline siblings, Mr. Spike, Chester Molester & Miss Lily 🐾🐾🐾❤️.

Paka Tom that look on your face says it all! You look so adorable even when you're irritated by the clothing and the cone.

I'm happy that your feisty attitude is helping you get through recovery. Here's to a great week with no more fleas!

Peeing once is a day is all we are asking for Tom keep it up buddy ! YAAAAAAAAY

I agree we need a pee emoticon these were the best I could find and I guess it’s only us that celebrate the pee and poop like we do 😂

Fleas you are going to have to do more then deflea Tom & Leo fyi! Fleas will be in the house now, Ask the Vet what they suggest to use at home. Luckily we haven’t had to deal with fleas so I don’t have suggestions. I do know you have to eradicate them in the house too all I do know. I was hoping Petra might no will, maybe Kerren has dealt with fleas?

Yes kitties can eat the Gerbers baby food just make sure it is the meat and gravy ones they don’t have onions etc in those. Turkey and gravy is a favorite with our 2 guys. Others have used Ham & Gravy, Chicken & Gravy and that is their favorites get all 3 they are inexpensive and Tom might chose one over the other. It’s a go to for times like this or you can sometimes hide meds in there too just depends on the meds and if its bitter or not!

Petra gave you a great tip on the pill popper too! We have a forum with all methods & how to’s if you haven’t seen it.
Administering Medications to your Cat

The tablets if it is NOT a long acting med, I use a mortar & pestle and pulverize them add some liquid (if bitter use tuna juice) it masks bitter meds and I syringe that back up and syringe to my guys. Same with a capsule I open the capsule and mix liquid to syringe to them. I just find syringing easier then fighting the pills. Thats just my preferred method . Whatever method works for you & your cat & you comfortable with, is what matters and gets the job done! We have to not be nervous doing it I know that makes a big difference .

If you lucky and it does happen you can see if Paka Tom will lick either the baby food or tuna juice or milk with his meds and not have to pill him!!

I might be nuts but I taste everything a pin size taste to see what I have to deal with in ways of medicating my guys LOL If its bitter or blah or no taste. The no taste use baby food, or his milk or tuna what he likes most!

Baby food is not balanced for cats but yes use it in recovery or even as a treat or for meds. When kitties are not eating you have to try anything and Vets approve of baby food, short term is fine. Long term you would want to get balanced food of course and they make foods that can be syringed if you have to. Tom is not there and I am really hoping he wont get to that point.

The smellier the foods get past the pain meds at least it did with us. Tuna & Salmon, Chicken & Herring All kitties have different tastes you kinda have to experiment. I had a assortment of canned foods for Purrkins when he came home just in case he refused one.

I do hope the onesie now correct size and sewn is your fix! Tom shouldn’t be able to get to his incision . But some cats can escape from them so If your not home use both. Purrkins never escaped from his onesie or even tried ? Not sure why just greatful he didn’t mind his outfits! Yes he absolutely soaked up his heat pack. He is just like the picture drugged or not thats my love bug man;)

PAKA Tom your so mtanashat in your onesie ticked or not you look adorable.

I am not surprised Tom is showing you already and I am so glad to hear he is showing you see Mom I will be ok on 3 and you haven’t seen all that I will do on 3 yet!! Just wait!! Thank god for second opinions !! Yaaay to you for going further Tom says Thanks Mom I’m happy to be hopping on! It will keep getting better & better!

Petra on Purrkins and Mount Everest OH yes and we aren’t sharing that with Tom or Mom not yet😉 Poor Spike we haven't encountered that yet. We all should have Vets that come to the house. Maybe one day!

P.S. Kerren didnt share the other part of Mona’s recovery book;) The great e——-. Maybe she will later 😍 Since Tom is not taking notes;)

Upendo, hugs and purrs to you all of you!

Jambo Mama

yes Holly is absolutely correct... thankfully I have never had to deal with fleas in the house, but my sister did. She had to treat all the bedding with something and then FLEA BOMB the whole house!😣 It's not fun! I was hoping your vet would have a better solution, as I don't know if the chemicals in the flea bomb will effect Paka Tom and Leo? Plus I don't know the proper name of the stuff, is it called Flea Bomb, I'm not sure? And is that what it would be called in Kenya? I do know she had to treat the whole house! I am sorry for you, it's a pain in the arse!

Good luck darling. Hugs, cuddles and chin scratches to you all!

Kwaheri Mama 😘❤️

Jambo lovely people! I’m so so sorry for updating so late - the week got so chaotic and it completely slipped my mind 😨 really didn’t mean to leave you all in the dark!

We removed Paka Tom ‘s cone on Monday and swapped it for the onesie, and he was absolutely delighted! He did try to lick at his stitches but he gave up after a short while. He was even feeling brave enough to venture into the garden, he ended up spending a long while there sunning himself and rolling around. Im sure he was bursting with joy, it’s really such an incredible alternative to the cone. Holly you are a genius! (Tom has been taking modelling notes from Purrkins as well!)

We flea treated the cats as well and washed all the bedding with bleach.. and just cleaned all the rooms aggressively. I really doubt it’s enough to eradicate them, but I checked with the vets and they don’t know what flea bombing is, and with the garden and the heat I think our chances of keeping the fleas out for good are low.. best thing to do seems to be just to treat them, comb them and clean like hell every 2 weeks or so! The article was super helpful though - for some reason I thoughtfleas would like warm water baths 🤔 always something to learn here!

He had his stitches out on Wednesday morning, but the tshirt stayed on for 3 more days until the scabs covered up completely. His general pattern is sleep for two days and then be more active on the third, today is an active day so he was out for a while taking in some air 😊

He has also been a lot more affectionate - I don’t know if that’s temporary or a personality change but we are all loving it and soaking it up - Im just not sure if it’s normal?

It sounds like Mona had quite the hectic recovery! Really interested in hearing how it went, so interesting how it’s vastly different for different tri kitties!

Again sorry for such a delayed update - rest assured we are doing amazing here, happy, healing and so so grateful to each and every one of you for all your support ❤️

So sweet! The first photo of Paka Tom looks like he's wearing a bikini top. That is a very cute onesie for sporty Tom.

Mona did do the Great Escape to the outdoors on her 4th day after the amputation. She was gone for over 24 hours. I stopped the opioid medication once I found her and just let her do whatever she wanted from then on, although I didn't let her outdoors unless she was on my lap. She was more content, no misbehaving (except for the litter box), and we were all happy.

As we see 12 years old isn't too old for an amputation. Congratulations to making it to stitch removal day without too many challenges.

Hugs to you and your handsome Tom heart

Kerren and Tripawd Kitty Mona.

Jambo Paka Tom & Mama
No apology needed we were just thinking of you & thought we would check in and see how you guys were doing!

Ditto to everyone!! Thank god for second opinions and not being Too Old Tom! NO WAY! Your hopping proof!

We are glad to hear all is well & stitches are out! YAAAAAY Cone free and the onesie’s worked ! YAAAAAY

I’m no genius 🤣 Someone came up with the onesie’s before I did. I just posted a tutorial on how I made Purrkins. When we were faced with this decision I knew Purrkins wouldn’t tolerate a cone on 3 legs so of course I googled everything and anything pawsible to NOT have to have a cone on him. I found some people used onesies, & t-shirts no instructions just that they used them. I just shared what worked for us & how I made them;) I’m glad to hear it helped Tom too!!😍

Paka Tom looks very mtanashati love his football onesie!😻 We are honored Paka Tom! Purrkins says you have mastered his poses & we feel the love thru that laptop!❤️

It sounds like he is doing amazing ! I am guessing that Paka Tom has been in pain a lot longer then he let on.
He is not on pain meds anymore I would say it’s Not temporary Thats Tom😉 Tom being Pain free without the leg! 😽

I also think we slow down enough after something like this that we notice more then we would have before the cancer & amputation. We form a deeper bond with our animals we get thru this together and we both know it;) Just my theory 😉 I do think it will remain that way! Soak it up and continue loving every minute !!

Thanks for this WONDERFUL update and Paka Tom you keep it up buddy ! We are delighted to see you hop on and be a love bug!!

Well said Holly and Purrkins! The new and improved bond is a huge bonus to this process! Stewie will have to add that one to his ongoing top 20 list!!!

Paka Tom! I'm a little late to the party, but just have to stop by and say that you are adorable!

🐾 Loki, Dog of Mischief 🐶

I loved life as a tripawd for over three years following right forelimb amputation due to an aggressive and recurrent hemangiopericytoma. I reclaimed my place among the gods and valkyries in Valhalla on November 11th, 2020. My parents miss me tremendously, but I know they'll keep me in their hearts forever... and don't worry, I've approved my mom's use of my Tripawds account.
