Yes, I think Pam summarized the view the oncologist was giving. He did not say that he'd avoid amputation. He made it clear that amputation was very important to relieve pain. But his points raised the question of considering other treatments at the same time or before, like the metronomics as Pam stated

On that topic, I think I searched the web yesterday (sometimes it all blurs together) and read about angiostatins that are produced while the primary tumor is present and appear to diminish the likelihood of mets taking hold (sort of like a natural anti-angiogenesis). Apparently the level of angiostatins drops once the primary tumor is removed. So one possibility for drug is to give a comparable drug, similar idea to using metronomics, a form of anti-angiogenesis therapy. I wonder if he brings up this issue in his book – doing some form of therapy prior to amp.
