Using my nose as a peg leg

It's been snowy and the back hill has gotten a tad icy the past week.  Cali, who is a 14-yr old front-leg amputee, generally gets around really well, but with the slick conditions, she has been taking to using her pointy snout as a way to balance when she feels unstable.

Yesterday she slipped and put her nose down and ended up scraping her nose and breaking a tooth!  OUCH!  Now I am trying to think how to build her a snout guard to protect her.

Anyone have ideas?

You could modify a muzzle or add some padding to one of those greyhound snout cages.

Ouch! How awful. I have no ideas, other than Jerry's. I just wanted to come by and say ouch.

May 2001-Jan 21, 2010.....I'm a dog and I'm AWESOME!..... Always.

Oh poor Cali! Well Cali, not even a broken tooth can dim your sparkling pawsonality.

I too think your Mom should try a muzzle with some traction surface on the end. Are you still keen on wearing booties? (I assume you wore them in your more athletic days?). Those might help you not want to use your pretty nose as a peg leg.

Actually, with the slippery snow, I do much better without booties! Booties (well, the ones we use) are best used when you are running on sharp/abrasive surfaces (rock, broken ice, frost hoar, etc) to prevent wear spots on your pads. OR if you have a wear spot that is sensitive.

Mom is going to try to make me a hockey mask to use to keep my beak scuff-free. Meanwhile, I look sort of silly with my fat lip and skun-up nose. But it gets me lots of kisses!

How do you like my new avatar thingy?

Oh Cali, we are so hoppy you joined us here and even have an avatar! We love it!

Didn't know that about booties, but then again, we aren't exactly snow dogs over here like you are. Can't wait to see your Mom's hockey mask. I think she's onto something!

p.s. Didn't you know, big pouty lips are all the rage, now you're even more stylish than before!

Wwweeeellllll.... THAT was an experiment in utter failure! Got the thing on Cali, and she went totally berserk - flying around like a demon was on her shoulder, ended up hiding out in a pricker bush where I could not reach her and shredded the snoot guard to tiny bits. Now she won't come near me, and is on a hunger strike to punish the people. I don't think she liked me laughing at her so hard.....

It was a good idea anyway.  Too bad the camera wasn't on to capture her reaction.  Sorry I don't have any advice or suggestions.  Good luck.

Oh what WERE you thinking! That's like painting a moustache on the Mona Lisa!

Poor Cali. Let her know, her fans are waiting to see her pretty face again, stubbed nose or not.
