Hello,

Going to take advantage of the Maggie Moo foundation offer for evaluation. Sebastian's appt is this Friday. The vet Sebastian goes to actually has a certified canine rehab vet/tech on staff.

What are some of the things I need to ask or look out for?

I assume he is going to evaluate his body size and maybe recommend some exercises for him to do at home?

Any input as to what to expect will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Pawesome! We love to hear that!

Yes Sebastian will get evaluated for his strengths, weaknesses and where he needs additional help. A good rehab therapists wants to know your goals with rehab, so that they can work with you to meet them while keeping your expectations in check. For example, if Sebastian wants to become a world champion agility dog, the therapist can tell you if that's a realistic goal and how to get there. Or if he's happy just chillin on the couch, the therapist can let you know how to keep him fit and injury free. So in other words, think about your goals with him now that he's on three legs. What kinds of activities do you want to do, how often, etc.

Also, if it's your goal to do the exercises at home and just do occasional check-ins with PT, let the therapist know that. Some people don't have time to commit to a home program but others do. Think about the kind of time you can spend with him to keep him fit and let the therapist know. They can devise a program to work around that.

As an example, when our Wyatt Ray had some muscle soreness over summer, we took him to rehab and were given a 2x daily workout program of 3 exercises that took up about 1 hour per day. For us it worked out, we had the time to do it, but for others that kind of program might not be realistic. As long as you are honest with the therapist about what you can and cannot do time wise or financially, they should be willing to work with you to create a program for Sebastian.

Make sense? Holler with any questions. We are so excited you decided to go!
