My 10-1/2 year old lab mix, Bridget, had a synovial myoxoma in her left front paw and because her type of cancer doesn’t typically spread, partial amputation was an option. I earlier posted that I was uncertain which treatment option (full or partial amputation) I should pursue.  She had her paw amputated in early November at Colorado State Vetinary Teaching Hospital and was fitted for her prosthetic after her stitches were removed.  She developed a post surgical infection that took a while to heal, but after we cleared that hurdle she took off from day one on her new paw and hasn’t looked back.

i plan to post a blog of her story with video and more details but I just wanted to let anyone out there who has the option for partial amputation know that i am glad I elected that for her.  She’s happy to be out and about and out of pain.

Sounds great, Jerry, thanks!  Bridget couldn’t be in the study because we live too far away to make the frequent checks for the research protocol but I worked extensively with Dr. Wendland before and after the surgery and she was great.

HI Bridget,

How exciting! We have an 18 mo old who just got her prosthetic today. I would love to hear how the study is going and how your pup is doing with it, along with any tips. Our girl is half Border Collie/Great Pyrenees...and a sensitive girl. We will be introducing it slowly as she isn't too excited with it at the moment. Also, do you know when the study will be complete and where it may be available to read?
