My dog goes imto surgery this morning and hardwood floors are a huge concern.  Will be measuring her before we leave the house for the hospital!  Questions:

  1. Do you have to be meticulous about keeping nails trimmed?  We normally are not.
  2. Miss Kitty is a digger, she loves going after chipmunks in the woods.  What are the chances of Toe Grips surviving this type of activity?

We hope everything goes great today! Please keep us posted. Meanwhile to answer your questions:

Yes, keeping a Tripawd's nails trimmed is extremely helpful for good traction . Also, trimming the fur between toes is another area that should be maintained.

As for Toe Grips....we have it from Dr. Buzby herself that this product stays on better if you apply Super glue to the Toe Grips when applying them to a Tripawd. Otherwise they will pop off, as a Tripawd's altered gait makes it difficult for them to adhere properly. See:

Hi there, all best to Miss Kitty for a smooth surgery and a speedy recovery. Update when you can. We will be thinking of you.

Re the concern about the hardwood floors, might it be possible to create a sort of runway with carpet runners - or cheap yoga mats also work really well? Just thinking it might make life easier than faffing about with toe grips when you'v enough to deal with caring for Miss Kitty post amp. Just a thought - obviously whatever works for you and gives Miss Kitty sufficient traction will be fine.

Sending positive vibes your way!

Hi Miss Kitty and Mum

im sorry you find yourselves here, but rest assured we will try to be as helpful as we can.

None of us can say enough about traction . It is the cornerstone of comfort on so many levels for all tripawds. It saves them from nasty slips and gives them confidence in hopping, sitting and standing.

Nail trims are important for any pup, but i do feel that it is more important for tripawds. If nails get too long, they tend to bend the toes out of alignment and therefore hopping properly is already at a disadvantage, now further the complication with their tripawd gait... i really do think that regular nail trims make it easier on both pawrent and pup.

Im a retired dog groomer and so i can sympathize completely if Miss Kitty doesn’t enjoy a regular pedicure! My suggestion to my clients was to play with their feet constantly and us a spoon around the toes as a desensitizing tool. Be sure to gently lead the head away if Miss Kitty pays too much attention to what you are doing and alwasy let her smell the tool you are using. Give treats and lots of assertive praise. If you only get to trim one nail a day, you’re already ahead of the game!

We hope your surgery went super well for you today!

Keeping you in our thoughts Miss Kitty

The Toe Grips are working great on our wooden floors.  I put them on in the car when we brought her home post-op, figuring that was the last thing she would notice.  It worked!   In a week she has only lost one, but I think I will definitely glue them on, as once she is more mobile and going outside I suspect they will fall off.

We are one week post op and doing well.
