Our vet has not recommended a joint supplement for our 22 lb girl. I'm thinking a supplement might be helpful...she is a front leg amputation of about 2 1/2 years. Recommendations before I give him a call. Wouldn't this be/shouldn't this be something the vet should be addressing? Any over the counter products? thanks

I use Dasuquin, as do a number of people on this site. It was recommended by my rehab vet, and I find it excellent. You can buy it from Amazon and other online sites. I also give a high quality fish oil (mine is not dog specific, just a good human one, though do make sure it has been tested for mercury contamination).

Just one question: when you say 'of about 2 1/2 years', do you mean she is 2 1/2 years post amp, or 2 1/2 years old? If the latter, then it might be that she's slightly young to be taking supplements. I think some people don't start until they are about three or four? I've heard that but I can't remember where. Perhaps someone who knows will join in and, obviously, see what your vet says.

Bravo! I love that you're including your vet in this conversation, that is so important.

Joint supplements vary in quality and price. You can make yourself dizzy shopping for them! Our Wyatt Ray is currently using TruDog's Free Me Joint Supplement, and so far so good. We've also done reviews of many other high quality dog joint supplements in the Tripawds Nutrition blog . Here are some Tripawds Nutrition blog posts about joint supplements to get you started thinking and talking to your vet to find one that's right for your pup.
