Jack has his front left leg missing due to a car accident, will he still be able to breed? My concern is that Jack will struggle with clasping the female's loin. Thanks.

Hi Jack, thanks for joining us.

This question was answered by our resident vet, Dr. Wiltzius, earlier this year. In summary, what she said was:

"I do not think that this is a good idea, especially in a large breed
dog. The added weight of all of the pups would probably cause increased
stress on the remaining legs."

What kind of dog is Jack?

It's better to hop on three legs than to limp on four.™

Jack is a male, correct? Based on what I have seen three legged dogs do I can't imagine how breeding would pose much of a problem for him. That said, I have never seen a tripawd mating.

Jack's a Jack Russell Terrier.

The female has all four legs so there's nothing to worry about there, I hope!

I'm no vet but if everything else is a go then it should be okay. That is if breeding is what you want to do. It's a lot of work. I love Jack Terriers. Lots of attitude! smile

Welcome Jack's family,

What happened that he is three legged?

I would definitely get advice from your vet.  If Jack has congenital issues, you wouldn't want to pass on any genetic defects.
