I guess this is a combo vent/question post…

So I was all set to order the K-9 Immunity for Mika and then I realized that for her weight, she would require NINE pills a day! So we would be essentially going through a $60 bottle almost every 9 days, and that doesn't even include the $100 a month in food that I'd like to do for her BARFy-type diet, plus her Rimadyl and any other supplements!

It's just soooo discouraging that providing her with the nutritional/homeopathic care that I'd like to do for her is cost-preventative! cry

What have you found to be the basic budget-friendly regiment that works for you?

Thanks,
Mari & Mika te Wonder Dog

We were fortunate enough to participate in a K9 Immunity clinical trial for Jerry, saving the expense of his seven pill a day habit.

This Eating Healthy forum topic, AHCC Cancer Therapies: NK-9, K9 Immunity, Power Mushrooms, discusses NK9 – a much less expensive "AHCC" (Active Hemicellulose Correlated Compound) treatment option.

Many members have also used Health Concerns Power Mushrooms with much success. It is another all natural immune system booster we recently wrote about in the Tripawds Nutrition Blog…

I have a friend who mixed her own power mushroom cocktail for her pittie with lymphoma.  I think you can find less expensive alternatives, and still achieve the desired results.

Trouble has so many allergies, I'm afraid to try any of the supplements.  She gets glucosamine and I feel fortunate it hasn't caused a problem for her.

Mika

I think the health concerns power mushrooms are much less expensive than the other supplement you mentioned. Plus you need fewer, something like 2 or 3 a day (my dog only needed 1-2 per day – any more I can't imagine) vs. 6 to 9. Just be aware that the dosage on the bottle is for humans – so don't take that much.

hey Admin, I tried the link that you posted regarding K9 Immunity and AHCC Cancer Therapies but there is no such forum anymore. Is there perhaps a different link that would work?

D'oh! The link above to AHCC Cancer Therapies: NK-9, K9 Immunity, Power Mushrooms has been fixed, we had changed the topic title. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Cemil was on ImmPower, which I was buying from Vitacost until I saw that they had a generic AHCC+ and now I'm getting that.  It's a lot cheaper.

You've got a great eye for bargains, Mary. We couldn't find a better price. What is the dosage you're giving to Cemil? How long does the 60 pill bottle last you?

The human dosage is 2 per day, and since Cemil is human size, that's what he gets.  So a bottle lasts a month. I put it on autoship and every 30 days, a bottle just shows up.  I don't even have to think about it.

Check out the other things Vitacost has–I get nearly all my supplements there.  I attribute Alle's long life to their NSI acai berry pills.  During her two bouts with pancreatitis, that's all she could tolerate for a couple day and it kept her going.  Also, she isn't blind, something that a lot of diabetic dogs are.  Great stuff.  http://www.vitacost.com/NSI-Ac…..0-Capsules (they get two per day).
