I know it's important to watch Cocoa's weight now. I know she put on a pound since her ampawtation. I suspect she's added another pound or two.
I am feeding her Nature's Variety kibble and can. She gets what they recommend for her weight: 3/4 cup kibble and 4 tbs wet twice a day. She gets 3 Nature's Balance biscuits and rounds about twice a day. She doesn't get many other treats except for yogurt, cottage cheese and cheese (Gigi gets her allergy pills in cheese, so Cocoa gets a taste or two too). She also got a bite of sardine tonight for the first time.
Should I cut back on her food to maybe a 35-lb dog? She was at 41 a few weeks ago.

Leaner is definitely better for a tripawd, but ask your veterinarian for a recommended weight. Trouble was good at 54-56 pounds, but when I told our vet I had Duke on a diet, he didn't want him below 63-64 - same breed, just built different.

Always remember that those feeding recommendations on the back of packages do not take into account your specific dog's activity level and needs. Keeping a Tripawd leaner than usual is always a good idea to take extra weight off their bones.
I don't know how big those biscuits are, but three biscuits twice a day sounds like a lot on top of the other treats (which sound heavy on the calorie count). Remember, they count as part of her overall food allotment for the day, not in addition to it. If she's gaining weight you may want to cut those treats out to help her slim down a little.

I'm still trying to figure that out myself with 30lb puppy! I doing 2 cups a day which seems like a lot to me but he's still so hungry (or at least he acts like it)
This may be a conspiracy theory story but I thought the food portion on bags of food is too much - so you'll buy more food.

She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
You certainly want to cut back on the treats, as your pup is now a Tripawd & probably isn't as active. We only gave Skyler & Chloe one or two small treats per day (I threw that theory out the window for the last few months of Chloe's life - although she still stayed slim). Please keep us posted! All tripawds are best kept on the light side. Check out Trouble's canine reducing diet and consider using green beans or other fruits and vegetables as treats.
