I read that milk thistle is good for dogs with cancer on chemo radiation ,, etc,, I happen to give the powder version to one of my horses,,, Can someone tell me a dose per day for 100# dog ? my horse gets 3 gms that equaled a heaping teaspoon,, and sometimes dogs get more. of certain meds and herbs, . ( for ex,,, dogs get 227mg of prevacox,, but a 1100 lb horse would do poorly on anything more than 57mg.) anyone know the correct dose for the powdered version?
Before trying it please review with your vet whether or not it's appropriate for Simon. Supplements can have interactions with other medications, chemotherapy, etc.
One of our earliest members, Captain Jack's mom, mentioned milk thistle was one of the supplements she tried:
Milk Thistle: This helps prevent dog cancer liver damage. It can help treat hepatitisand prevent injury from other drugs. It can protect the liver from chemotherapy and anti-convulsants (phenobarbital). Suggested dosage is 250 mg for a dog under 25 lbs, and 500 mg for a dog over 25 lbs once daily. Milk thistle should be used in most cases of liver cancer, but always ask your veterinarian.
