We just had a new member ask about AHCC, and not being familiar with it, wanted to know if anyone knows if AHCC (Active Hemicellulose Correlated Compound) is another type of mushroom therapy, or the same kind of therapy as K9 Immunity, which is what I, and many of us, have used with success. The name brand product she is trying is NK-9 Immune System Support for pets
Is AHCC basically mushroom therapy, but using different compounds than K9 Immunity? We're confused.
We're going to look into it and call our friends at Aloha Medicinals, makers of K9 Immunity, to find out more. Meanwhile, any feedback on AHCC therapy is greatly appreciated. Here are some links about it:

Interesting. We'll need to look into this further. Aloha Medicinals says K9 Immunity has a blend of various natural ingredients. Different mushrooms, I believe.
AHCC is the key ingredient in NK-9 from American Biosciences. According to them, the NK-9 blend includes “Active Hexose Correlated Compound” but they don't list specific ingredients.
We found the NK-9 available at various prices online at the following retailers:
FYI: American Biosciences is the same company that makes Dog Gone Pain .

Cemil is on ImmPower, another product of the same company, at the suggestion of Dr. Williams. I'm doing it because that was her choice and she knows more than I do. I get it at VitaCost for about half of what it costs anywhere else.

The good people at Aloha Medicinals wrote to us to explain what exactly AHCC is, and how it differs from their product Immune-Assist.
In the 1980's, a blend of mushroom mycelium extracts was formulated by researchers at Daiwa Pharmaceuticals in Japan and marketed under the name AHCC. This same research group later improved on their work and came up with a second formulation, which they named MGN-3. These two products have been the most common immune system enhancers available on the US market. They both work pretty well, and for the same reason. They are both polysaccharide immune activators.
It was this initial research on AHCC and MGN-3 that lead to the discovery of Immune-AssistTM. While these earlier supplements are each single polysaccharide compounds, Immune-AssistTM is much more complex, being a combination of over 200 different polysaccharides immune activators. What does this mean?

Our poodle Abby is on the NK-9 (AHCC) and has been since the week B4 her first chemo on June 3. Her only side effect from the chemo was slight inappetance for 4-5 days. We have pills for that. Since that time she has been going for 4 or 5 1k walks per day, eating up a storm (home cooking), has gained weight and generally has major energy. Her white cell count did drop but is back up and she had another treatment today. AHCC was given an hour B4 the treatment. Have spoken with American Biosciences and they have said to stay at the full dose from start to finish of the chemo. It apparently has no known negative side effects and certainly seems to have helped her overall. Think anything we can do to improve our kids qualitiy of life is worth a try. Would be interesting if there was ever a study done comparing the different mushroom therapies.

So glad to hear it's working for Abby, thanks so much for the feedback.
Just in case you missed it, we recently published a blog post about the results of the K9 Immunity Trial I was in. Check it out here.
