We'll miss our Harley pup

Our beloved Harley lost his battle with cancer this morning.  What we thought had been a limp due to ACL trouble turned out to be another tumor.  Harley was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in April of 2010.  He had his left front leg amputated on May 10th.  He finished up chemo in September.  We had a wonderful last eight months with him.  He had an appointment tomorrow to get his right rear leg xrayed at our vet, to make sure it wasn't the cancer causing the trouble before he would start rehab later this week.  But he took a turn for the worse starting Friday night.  Did not want to move around at all.  Wouldn't eat or drink yesterday.  I woke up at six this morning and he looked awful, so I brought him into the 24-hour vet, where he was also treated for his cancer.  They found the tumor :(

I want to thank Tripawds – just for being here.  I haven't been very active on this site, but it has provided me a great deal of comfort and lots of good information.  I found you the day I brought Harley in for his amputation.  I was sitting home worrying about him, thinking I was crazy for chopping off Harley's leg.  I found videos of Jerry on Youtube running around and chasing frisbees and I felt so reassured!  I also ran out and got throw rugs to put down on our hard wood floors, bought a raised feeder, and a Ruff-wear harness – all of which made Harley's homecoming and last eight months so much easier for him.

Give your pups a hug for me today!

So sorry to hear about Harley, this crap shows no mercy, but the fact you had eight more months with him is super. Alot of people wonder if amputation is worth it, and I think no matter how much extra time we get, it makes that time extra special. My condolences,Spirit Gus and Dan

My buddy Gus had a left front amputation on April 7, 2010 and lived a great life until July 26,2010

Oh hockeymom, we are deeply sorry that Harley has earned his wings. Our love and condolences go out to you and your family.

I know that to have eight hoppy months after surgery is such a gift, but losing him still hurts terribly. I hope that you can find some comfort in knowing that he is never far from you, and will always stay strong in your heart.

Thank you for the kind words about Tripawds, we are deeply touched.

Here's to Harley! May he run free and pawty with our Spirit Tripawd friends forever.

Many, many hugs coming your way.

It's better to hop on three legs than to limp on four.™

Lori and Spirit Harley,

Once more I find that words cannot express just how sorry we are to hear that Harley's journey has come to a conclusion, but hope that you can accept our deepest sympathy at this time. While grateful that you did have these eight months, I also know that there is never enough time with them, and the gut wrenching battle with cancer only makes the loss even harder. In time, I hope that you will take comfort in the knowledge that you did every thing possible and that the great life and love that you shared is so very obvious from our postings. Know that you will never be totally without Harley, for the gifts that he gave you will live with you forever.
