Trying to Celebrate Life on Cherry's Two Year Ampuversary

One year ago today, we were completing Cherry’s Three Day Celebration. It started on her birthday, continued through her one year ampuversary, and concluded with the pawrties at the both facilities of the two sets of primary care givers for her tripawd journey. It had been a real struggle the weeks before, and I was not sure if she was going to make it, but much to my delight, we all had a wonderful time.

Being determined that I would not let her birthday go by without appropriate celebration, we again took sheet cakes to the offices of our primary care gives so that they too could celebrate. As Dr McCool saw the cake, she got a very big smile, but soon her eyes swelled and a tear could be seen on her cheek. Well, that did it for me and I started to break down. However, as I left I reminded the staff that they should remember the joy that Miss Charites gave, her entertaining mischievous impish spirit, and her strength during her tripawd journey. I asked them to celebrate her life – we can all have a good cry on the anniversary of her departure.

The weather here in NorCal has washed out any hope of continuing such a celebration today with our extended tripawd family, but I would ask each and every member of this community to join me in a celebration of life. They came to this earth with the sole purpose of spreading joy, love, and in some cases mischief and no matter how much we miss them, we should always give thanks and celebrate the fact that fate crossed our paths. For those lucky enough to be continuing your journey, be sure to celebrate each and every day. Never miss an opportunity to tell them just how proud you are for their courage. Should you have the opportunity to enjoy some Ice Cream, think of Miss Charities and CELEBRATE LIFE!

Thank you for the reminder. It can be so difficult sometimes, not to be overwhelmed by the heartbreak, but you are right to prompt us to remember how heavenly it was when they were here. Our dog losses have been many, but we have never regretted a single moment and have cherished every paw print left on our floors, our sofas, and our hearts.

Here, today, and as long as we are able, we'll continue to fight the good fight, and be glad we are able to do so.

Ice cream for everyone. Thank you Spirit Cherry.

I gave Chloe an everlasting treat insert today for celebrating Spirit Cherry.  We understand about the Cali weather right now, even in Santa cruz we are getting rain on/off…

Chloe is slowly progressing with the Separation anxiety stuff, however I think she is too ingrained in her shadowing habits so it is taking a while…the good thing is that my extended family feels sorry for us and how hard it is with her separation anxiety so they said she could come to thanksgiving dinner.  We will be bringing her crate and I will give her lots of toys to play with! She does see it as a safe haven now. She will stay inside it when she hears fireworks going off instead of cowering under my desk.  Thanks so much for your advice and encouragement!!!

We hope your Chloe is doing well too!

That is sage advice Bob, we will take you up on it.

Not a day goes by when we don't think of ICE CREAM and Spirit Cherry. She shall forever embody the spirit of living with cancer, and feeding our spirits with hoppiness.

We are so bummed about the pawty getting cancelled. Hope you can make it next week.

Nicole, that is fabulous news about Chloe! Aren't crates the coolest?

Everyday I get down on the floor lay my head on Tasha's chest I hug her and give thanks that we have been blessed with another day with our girl. So today as I lay my head on Tasha and give thanks I will remember Cherry and celebrate her life as I celebrate Tasha's.  What an honor.

Thank you for this beautiful reminder, Bob (I needed it).  I think I'll go get some pumpkin ice cream and celebrate Miss Cherry, you, and all our Tripawd Family …

Nicely said Bob.

Here's to all the Tripawds in our extended family, still here, or watching over us.

Bob,

I always feel so priviledged to have been graced with Tai's presence and, like you with Cherry, am forever grateful for the life lessons she taught me along the journey. Although many, well lets face it, most, of our pups eventually lose their battle with this horrible disease the bond that we share will never allow cancer to truly take them from us. They continue to live in our hearts and deep within our souls for the rest of eternity.

Also a special thank you to you Bob, for continuing to offer your support and advice to all who visit this site. I know first hand how painful it can be to return after having lost your pup. Your sage wisdom and kind words are such a helping hand to those who now face the battle.

So here's to Cherry, Tai and all of the other Angel Tripawds, who are all heroes in my mind. May they be running free and celebrating the tripawds who are still fighting the good fight.

Cheers Bob,

Laura (Angel Tai's Mum)

Tai – 9 yr old lab. Diagnosed Osteosarcoma Dec 18/09. Front right leg amputated Dec 21/09. Started chemo Jan 7/10. Lung mets discovered Sept 16/10. Valiant to the end on Oct 26/10 when cancer reappeared in a leg and we made the decision to set her free. Forever in my heart where not even cancer can take her from me.

Bob, you are indeed correct to celebrate their life and our many happy times with them.  Regardless of how long we have with them, it is always too short.  They teach us so many things on the journey, things we never thought we would need to know.  As I've said before, we are the chosen ones.  We were given these special creatures because we can and will do everything we can to make their lives great.

Bob you are such a great example for us all.  You've learned those lessons so well and share them with us, lest we forget how precious the time we have with them really is.

Today, I celebrate the time I knew Cherry, the bond the November Five had, the ice cream.  We can NEVER forget the Cherry signature ice cream.

I am thankful to have shared the Cherry experience if only for a short time.  Happy Ampuversary, Miss Cherry.  You are gone, but never forgotten.

Aw Bob.  We will celebrate life right along with you.  Your post is great reminder to remember to celebrate, not just the love of our fur family but our people family.  Anyone that brings joy and happiness to your life should be celebrated!

And just remember, even years from now – we'll still be licking ice cream cones for celebrations, thanks Miss Cherry.

I truly hope that my Ruthie has found Miss Charities so she can help her along at The Bridge.  I cry all the time thinking of my girl, but it's also important to remember their lives and their bravery and what they have taught us along that journey.

So ice cream all around and chears to those who follow in their paths.

After 9 months, Ruthie lost her battle on June 13, 2010. My heart is broken…I miss you so much my dear sweet girl.
