Saturday will be six months since Rocky went to the Bridge. That seems like a good day to try writing. big-grin

I'm going to take my own advice and post about Rocky again.

Image Enlarger

You've likely seen that photo before since it's one of the three in Rocky's banner. That photo means a lot to me. It was taken exactly one year ago today (March 20).

Rocky was supposed to get groomed in mid January. But then the limping started. Then the biopsy. Then the amputation. There really wasn't much of a chance to get him groomed. By the time his grooming appointment came around, on March 20, he was pretty shaggy (and a little stinky).

When we got home that afternoon, he was soooooo happy. I guess the old adage "look good, feel good" applies to pups as well. The amputation was healed. The scabs were gone. The fur that had been shaved hadn't completely grown back, but it blended in nicely with his haircut.

Rocky had a little howl he did when he was happy. He's in mid-howl in the photo above. I posted a video (maybe even in this thread) of him. It hit me while he was howling that I needed to get video before he went to the Bridge. So I made it that day.

As everybody here knows, there's a lot of worry, a lot of stress, a lot of anxiety when dealing with cancer and amputation. For us, all that stress began on Jan. 23 of last year.

But there also comes a point when you get through it and you feel as though you've survived the worst of it. Your dog (or cat) is happy again. You adjust. You find your new normal. For us, that day was March 20th. It's really hard to believe it's been a whole year. I miss that day.

I LOVE that photo. I can almost hear the little woo woo that he is making. Just so sweet David. It is amazing how time takes over and just keeps going (the older I get the faster it goes too)

Good morning David and Baxter

the picture of Rocky is brilliant, isn’t it! He probably thought that his lovely grooming had gone out the window with his leg, the poor lad! Hehehe, as a retired mobile dog groomer, i love that he felt so good after his groom... that was my favourite time, not only because i had made them look good, but to see that i had been able to make them feel that good too! Because i would go to the pups homes, my relationship with them was that much greater and therefore far more rewarding! It sounds like Rocky would have been a blast to groom!

The anxiety and the stress... yes, it’s always there, but well hidden sometimes! You know how it is David, people see our pups, or cats hopping around like .... i was going to say “like there’s no tomorrow”... and they see a fur baby doing just fine, they don’t see the dark monster inside of them, we see it everyday!

And maybe this is the secret... “like there’s no tomorrow”... we should all act like there is no tomorrows and maybe we could all look so Hoppy as our furbabies!!! They really do only care about the moment don’t they!!!

Massive hugs to you and Baxter and sweet spirit kisses to your Rocky boy!

Petra, Stewie and his Frisky Kittens

Rocky is such a handsome boy. He looks so dapper with his grooming results... and quite adorable! I have to say. for just a second, I'm pretty sure I heard him vocalizing to yoi! 🙂  I'm glad this photo holds such a happy memory for you as a turning point for realizing Rocky was Rocky again! 🙂

David, do you have that picture framed somewhere? If you don't, I would... it just touches the heart and shows the essence of who he is heart

For some reason I never got that one framed. May need to head back to Shutterfly.

The one where he’s looking over his shoulder at me is framed in about five places at my house now. big-grin

I had to have surgery today to remove a pre-cancerous mole. I thought it’d be a quick in and out, but I had to go to the hospital, wear the surgical gown, operating room, the whole nine yards. Kind of intimidating since I had never had any type of surgery before.

But the whole time they were working on me (I was awake) I kept thinking “this is nothing compared to what poor Rocky (and Stewie and the other pups and cats here) went through.

David, I’m sorry to hear you had to go in for surgery! It’s better that it is done in a completely sterile environment anyway, but when your not expecting it, it really can be intimidating for sure! I often think like you just have... my pains and ailments are nothing compared to a Tripawds experience for sure! They are so very brave aren’t they?!!

I hope all is well now David and everything has been caught in time!
