I chose today to share this tribute video because April 21st is Libby’s birthday.  She would have been 11 years old.

The sadness of her passing still hangs on.  She was our pack leader, which I know goes against the grain for dog trainers, but that’s how we rolled.

She would look me in the eyes then glance at her treat jar when she wanted a snack.  She would lie in the back hall and give out a little whimper.  When I would check on her she would again look me in the eyes then look up at her harness hanging on the wall because she wanted to go for a walk.  She was so very smart.

There’s so much I miss about her.  Over the last few months, when she wanted to be let in she would bark as usual.  I would go to let her in and she’d be 15 feet away from the door, standing there.  At first I thought she wanted a running start into the house but once I opened the door, she would look at me and lay down as if to say “Mom, will you stand there and watch me while I relax here on the sidewalk?” It was so quirky of her and she would just lie there as long as I stood and watched but the minute I would walk away she’d be right at the door barking to get in. Silly girl.

I miss cooking for her.  She was so enthusiastic about meal time.  That’s the hardest thing for me, just seeing one feeding bowl now instead of two.  Bret misses her slobbering on his pants at the breakfast table every morning.  She loved toast. He always cut up his slice and shared bits of it with her. It was hard to hide anything from her too.  The sound of the cheese drawer opening or a Ziploc bag being opened brought her right to my side in the kitchen.

I miss kissing her snout and calling her sweetpea and the half a dozen other nicknames we had for her.

I miss playing with her. Before she became a tripawd I used to chase her around the kitchen table.  She’d have her ball in her mouth and we’d go round and round, sometimes doubling back to catch her but it never fooled her…she was always too quick. I'm going to miss tossing her the ball in the pool.  She was so entertaining.

She went on vacations with us and loved to go “bye-bye”.  She insisted on riding shot gun so I ended up in the back seat a lot!  If I stayed in the front she would climb from the back, on to my lap and rest her head on the dashboard. She was so smart we had to spell things.  We couldn’t say the word “walk” without her getting all excited so we had to say it backwards “klaw” until she caught on to that word too!  We ended up saying “she wants to go for a you-know-what”.  She wanted to go walking no matter what the weather and Bret did it.  He always said, even before her diagnosis, “The dogs aren’t here on earth that long and I want to make the most of our time with them.”  No regrets.

I could go on and on (which it looks like I already have) but I will stop for now.  Thank you for taking the time to read a few of my memories of our girl.  Thank you for always being here for me, then and now.

Happy Heavenly Birthday, Sweetpea.

Oh gosh, when I posted this, Libby's banner appeared at the top of the forums.  Yay! I'll take that as a sign of her approval. :)

Oh gosh.  I knew I shouldn't have watched that at work :( sobbing...

What a beautiful tribute you put together Amy.  She was such a loving, happy girl.  I feel honored to have known her and you and your entire family.  It's just so unfair cancer had to take her.  But she lived a beautiful life and you honored it in every way possible.

I will never ever forget her......

All my love forever,

Erica

Love, love, LOVE this!!! What beautiful memories. Thank you for sharing MORE of Libby with us and keeping her spirit alive. She was indeed a very special girl and definitely bonded with you all so much.

I barely made it through the video w/out tears but I think they were happy tears.... what a beautiful memorial. I want to do a video for my girl too... You'll have to share how you did that.

Such a sweet girl ... such a happy girl! Sending you lots of love!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

You know she approves. I always look forward to seeing her avatar picture in the yellow "swimsuit" that matches Murphy's. Gotta love those Chesadores.

Kathi and Murphy

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!

UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

Aw, ladies..thanks so much for your kind words.

Erica, you didn't mean to, but you made me chuckle about crying at work.  I would be the same way.  I know I shouldn't watch/read something but I do anyway and the tears flow in public.  Thank you for loving my baby girl. The feelings are mutual.

Alison, I'm glad you enjoyed it.  It was tough making it.  My 25 year old son helped me and we were both sobbing through the whole process.  Muting the music helped some but I just love that version of Over the Rainbow.  Let me know when you're ready and I'll try to help.

Hugs and Love,

Amy & Spirit Libby

Thank you, Kathi.  It was just so cool to have her banner pop up as soon as I posted her video.  Can't be a coincidence!

Hoppy Birthday in Heaven Libby.  Sobbing yep that is me.  What an awesome tribute.  I loved all the pictures.  So awesome.  Yes I know i said that I just can't help repeating it.  Well, I didn't get Libby when I watched it but I got Happy Hannah so I guess stamp of approval from both of them 🙂  I loved the over the Rainbow song.  It fit.

Lori, thank you... it has taken me a long time to get to the point of being able to put a tribute together. I gathered pictures and sat on the project for a long time. I still cried through the whole process. It's all so fresh for you.  I look forward to seeing your sweet angeldog Ty's pictures when you're ready.

Sally...you said everything you needed to say.  I can read between your lines and feel all the love.  It's so fresh for you too.  Believe me, I thought of the Sister Wives and YOU when writing about her shotgun position. :) You saw her banner 3x's in a row???  Amazing!  Yep, it's a sign for sure.  We love you too, Sally and Happy Hannah (Furever in our hearts).

We don't know when Sammie's birthday is so we have decided to celebrate it on this day from now on.

Hugs,

Wow, Michelle....you saw Happy Hannah?  I just think it's all cosmically connected.  It has to be.  I'm glad you enjoyed her tribute even if it called for a few tissues.

Joan and Lily

Our beautiful Lily was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her front leg on 12/14/11 at age 8 and had amp on 12/16/11. She completed 5 rounds of carbo. She was so brave and kicked cancer's butt daily! She lived life fully for 4 years, 3 months, and 15 days after her amp. My angel is a warrior princess. I miss her so much.
