Summer wanted everyone to know her precious Patchy has headed to the Bridge.

She will write more when she can, but she wanted everyone to know that Patchy had a glorious 13 months with her (and with us too)! A big dog, no chemo, knocking statistics out of the water!

She'll give you a link to his blog, but anyone who has followed along knows that everyday was definitely PATCHYDAY!! And that Patchy had one of the most smoochable mugs ever! Summer did a brilliant job of living in the moment and making every moment count!

Patchy's legacy of so many victories and mastering the art of three legs as a big boy will inspire everyone starting this journey!

Summer a d her family endured a lot of "transitions" this year. But I know they were ALL there welcoming Patchy and greeting him with hot dogs and hamburgers and eggs and pancakes...all cooked over an open campfire.

We salute you Patchy! A job well done indeed.

With love

I'm so sorry. I've always loved Patchy the Pirate and I know his loss, on top of the others, must be desperately  hard to bear. Please know that we grieve with you, Summer. Sending so much love and strength.

Sally you are so kind for letting everyone know, thanks. For anyone who is new here and hasn't seen Patchy's blog, I really encourage you to do so.

Cancer took our hero's body and it's a sad day for sure but it cannot take away his legacy. I will always remember how Sweet Patchy, that big hearted warrior, fought so hard and lived life to the fullest. He defied the odds and proved to the world that when it comes to amputation, anything is possible no matter the size of the Tripawd. If you ever hear about a vet dismissing a dog as a candidate for surgery because of size, tell them about Patchy.

Summer, we will miss your boy dearly and keep his spirit in our hearts forever.

Patchy was proof that Tripawd heroes come in all sizes.  He was an inspiration.  Sending love to his family and wishing him restful ease.

On October 27, 2016, nearly 6 months after amputation, and 18 months since his cancer likely started, we lost Pofi to a recurrence of Soft Tissue Sarcoma in his spine quite suddenly.  His canine sister also succumbed to cancer on March 1, 2019 - we lavished her with our love in the interim, but life was never quite the same without her only real canine friend. Cliff kitty had to leave us, too, suddenly, in August 2019. Lucia kitty grieved all these losses, but helped us welcome two new Lurchers into our home and our lives, Shae and Barley.

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

My heart is breaking here.  So sad to lose that gentle giant who was such a beacon of hope for the giant breeds.  He grabbed our hearts the minute we saw him and I know a piece of mine will go with him!  Fly free new Angel!  Hugs and love Summer!  I will remember your boy forever!

Sweet Summer ...

I was terribly devastated to hear Patchy went on this lonely journey, it is so heartbreaking for you, Kevin and us ...

He was the sweetest boy and you and Kevin were the sweetest pawrents ...

There was absolutely nothing both of you have not done for your boy, down to carrying him to his favourite tree and building a support for his leg.

I love that.

And I love you two with all my heart and am truly impressed with your commitment to him.

Life is definitely not fair, you sure had more than what one thinks is possible to bear this year, losing so many of your babies ...

Some say it is karma and if it is, you will be starting your next life with the purest of souls and never ever will have to go through anything like this again.

I so adore you Summer, I really, really do.

So wish I could hug in person but for now all I can do is send you the thighest of hugs and be with you in spirit, my darling friend.

I know it is no consolation but truth is there is no more pain for our darling sweet boy.

And you gave him all your love until the very end.

He left this planet a happy dawg, I know he did.

And is now watching over you from above with all your other babies.

My heart is right there, by your side, sweet, sweet Summer.

I so wish there was more I could do and say but at moments like these there is nothing which can provide relief.

Only time can help ease the pain a little, as we both know.

I am right there with you Summer, I am right there.

Eurydice 77kg/170lb Great Dane limping end of April 2016, amputation (right front leg/osteosarcoma) 4 May 2016 6 courses of carboplatin followed by metronomic therapy, lung mets found 30 Nov 2016. 3 courses of doxorubicin, PET scan 26 Jan 2017 showed more mets so stopped chemo. Holistic route April 2017. Lung X-ray 5 May 2017 showed several tennis ball size mets, started cortisone and diuretics. Miss Cow earned her XXL silver wings 12 June 2017, 13 months and 1 week after amputation and 6 1/2 months after lung mets, she was the goofiest dawg ever and is now happily flying from cloud to cloud woof woofing away :-)

I've avoided reading this because it makes me so sad. I know this day will come sooner or later for all of us ... it is the heartbreak we choose when we adopt a pet.

Patchy the Pirate will forever live in our hearts. Sending condolences to all who love him.
