Ginger's back leg is just not cooperating anymore. She's also barely eating, she's lost quite a bit of weight and just looks sad. She also has some kind of infection. We have an appointment to let her go next Monday. In the meantime, the vet gave me some antibiotics to get her comfortable from the infection and see if that gets her appetite back. In the meantime, we try to make this the Best. Week. Ever.

I'm so sorry she's feeling so poorly. That's just hard to go through, I know your heart must hurt. I will hold out hope that if the infection is cleared up she'll get some sparkle back and have more time with you. But if not, we understand and support you both in this phase of your journey together.

Let us know how the week goes OK? What kinds of things will you do together? Make it the Best Ever and you will have no regrets when you look back on it some day.

Lots of love & hugs coming your way.

I am so sorry you are all going though this - sending best thoughts and hoping the meds help her feel better and help you all have that best week ever.

Sending love...

On October 27, 2016, nearly 6 months after amputation, and 18 months since his cancer likely started, we lost Pofi to a recurrence of Soft Tissue Sarcoma in his spine quite suddenly.  His canine sister also succumbed to cancer on March 1, 2019 - we lavished her with our love in the interim, but life was never quite the same without her only real canine friend. Cliff kitty had to leave us, too, suddenly, in August 2019. Lucia kitty grieved all these losses, but helped us welcome two new Lurchers into our home and our lives, Shae and Barley.

Thanks, everyone. Monday was a good day. We hung outside and set up Ginger's bed near us while we relaxed in our hot tub. She was pretty alert and it was nice and cool out so she enjoyed it. Yesterday was pretty rough, however. She had potty accidents, and was really weak and withdrawn. We were actually wishing we could find a mobile vet to come out sooner, but everyone is booked. Today was a much better day, though! I think the antibiotics kicked in, as she was much more alert and active today. She still can't support herself well and has realized that squatting to pee leads to falling, and just going while standing up is WAY easier. We're doing leg massages to see if that helps over the next few days. She's been getting as much steak and hamburger as she wants, along with white rice to help with any upset tummy from the antibiotics. Hopefully the next few days keep going as well as possible.

I KNOW this is sooooo tough, so unbelievably tough. We really appreciate you taking the time ro update. And overall, it's a good update!

To hear Ginger is having some better days is so uplifting! Yes, this is when there are gopd days, and, as you've seen, less good days. The meds may be kicking in and that's a real good sign.

No dog could be more loved and more spoiled and more cared for, that's for sure!! To see how this sweet senior girl flourished on three legs is a testament to her determination and strength and to your love! You know your girl better than anyone a d you knew she could get some great extended time and you gave her that gift.

Continue to stay in the moment! It's hard but your love for Ginger is soooo strong you will, indeed, stay in the present! You will not let anything rob you of yiur time together! She is with you now and that is all that matters!

Yummy treats, junk food, ice cream, cheese pizza, steak, hamburger, and even a couple of M&M's!!

EVERY DAY IS GINGER DAY!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

Sending love and hugs and pawsitive energy

You all are the best. Definitely a huge help getting through this. Ginger's still hanging in there, but she's not eating much at all. I was able to get about 4 pieces of lunch meat in her today. She's been drinking water well, so I tried to get her to drink some bone broth to get some nutrients in, but no luck so far. And the less she's eating, the less Rico eats. Poor kid. We're all just hoping she keeps eating enough to get through the weekend, and the vet will be here at 4pm Monday. I am grateful that she's making sure we don't have any questions about it being time, at least. It doesn't make it easier now, but it might later down the road.

You are soooo tuned into Ginger and soooo devoted to her well being. You are clear in what needs to be done and, as you said, she's letting you know she's ready for the gift of release. And she's also letting you know she can hang in with you for a few more days without any real hard struggle. Yes, she's tuned into you too.

And actually, drinking is more important than the food, so that's good. You might try "Fresh Pet" it's refrigerated" sort of moist kibble and thst seems ro be a good "go to" food when a dog isn't eating. I know Target carries it and so does Whole Foods.

No, nothing about this is "easy" no matter how "right" it is. It does give you an opportunity to celebrate Ginger's glorious life without regret or second guessing. Yes, your love for Ginger is soooo string yiu can go this. Through your love you will be avle to put the tears on hold. She will be ssurrounded by your love and caring smile as she is released from her failing earthly body and moves into a beautiful new energy free of pain. She will hear you tell her what a good girl she is and feel the peace in your heart because you are helping her be whole and healthy again.

Ginger is with you now. Go give her a snuggle and kiss for us. And give yourself a hug a d a "kiss" from us. We are with you. We are by your side.

Surrounding you with love and strength

Sally and Alumni Happy Hannah and Merry Myrtle and Frankie too!

PS. Does Ginger like deer poop or bunny poop? If so, find her some and give her a spoonful. Nothing is off limits now!

Yes, we are surrounding you with our love and our stength, just as you are surrounding Ginger with your love and strength today. She knows how much you and Rico and Roxy love her and she will take thst love with her as she heads back "home".

The gift of release for Ginger today is one she welcomes. She has no fear and she knows she is just .moving on to another dimension of this life. Her Spirit will know no pain, only love and happiness. And she will continue to surrou d you with her love and all the joyously happy memories you shared.

With you.....

Thank you so much, everyone. Yesterday was definitely a horrible, yet peaceful day. Ginge was extremely stiff when she woke up. She got lots of daddy cuddles while I gave her some ice, which made her happy. The vet was able to come out just a bit early, luckily. We brought Ginger outside and set her on her bed in the dandelions that were bright and yellow. Roxy was in love with the vet and kept trying to get kisses, so we moved her inside so she could watch from the window. She had her big goofy grin which made everyone laugh despite the circumstances. Rico stood with us and Ginge went extremely quick. She was so ready to go. Then we let Roxy out for her goodbyes. It was all perfectly fitting for our crazy family. I'm incredibly glad my cousin was in town, because Ginger was so happy to see her and we were able to get some great family photos. Today we went exploring on a road trip with R&R to a lake a few hours away to get everyone out of the house, but we were definitely missing our girl.

What a beautiful place to say your goodbyes to Ginger, out in the sun and clear skies!   Most of us here know how hard it is to give our warriors that last gift.  For me the tripawd mantra of "we're not doing it TO them but FOR them" also resonated to me when it was time to let our Max go.  I knew it had to be for him because my heart was breaking. Fly free new Angel Ginger.  You've earned those golden wings mighty warrior!  Sending you light, peace and hugs!
