The Malone's said goodbye to Nikki today.  Nikki became a Tripawd on January 19th 2010; read her story in her blog Nikki the Rottweiler.

You may remember that Nikki's pack mate Buddy passed last June from the side effects of limb sparing osteosarcoma treatment.

The Malone's were also part of the Tripawds Rescue Railroad, aka the Cannonpaw Run,  that brought Miles from New Mexico to California last July.

RIP Nikki.

Oh!  I'm so sorry to hear about Nikki. Oh gosh.

My deepest condolences to you all.  I know how hard it was with Buddy and I'm just so sad to hear about Nikki.

Ohhhhhh Karen thank you for letting us know, we've been offline for a spell today.

We are so very sad to read about Nikki, the beautiful Tripawd Rottie girl who fought such a pawesome fight against cancer. She was so strong, and there was just something about her that was so relaxing and reassuring. Her folks must be hurtin' like hell right now, because Nikki had an incredible presence. She will be deeply missed by so many people.

Here she is, loving life and hanging with the Tripawd crew.

Nikki, your story will live on here forever. Run free pretty girl.

It's better to hop on three legs than to limp on four.™

So sorry that Nikki has moved on.  Most difficult time.  She is running fast and free with all the other angel, spirit, invisible tripawds that are romping at the bridge.  Play hard.

May Nikki run free of pain and rest in peace at the Rainbow Bridge. We are privileged to have met her, and can't the Malone's enough for sharing her story.

I, too, send my sympathies to the Malones.  I have only meet Nikki online through tripawds but remember her story.  When Buddy was diagnosed too it seemed to much for any family to have to handle.  To lose Nikki less than a year after losing Buddy is just heart breaking.  Please extend my sympathies to them.

I haven't been online, but I just knew.  Somehow on the 1st, I felt she was gone or about to go "home".  As I said with Raven, "back to heaven, where she came from".  They are truly sent to us here to enrich our lives and help us grow and become better humans.  If only we could aspire to their unconditional love, patience, endurance, grace.

Nikki was a gentle soul of a rottie.  I could see it in her sweet expression.  You were blessed to have her a good long time (in rott years) and especially after her diagnosis.

My heart breaks for you.  :(

Thanks to everyone….

I still can't really believe that she's gone, and we miss her terribly. As I wrote in the blog post though, it just seems wrong to cry over missing her, as it doesn't seem to do her fighting spirit justice.. (With that said, I have a hard time listening to my own advice)

Just wanted to stop in and say thanks for the kind words and the card..

A side note to all of this, we had made the decision to get a new puppy a few months ago, and when we got the news that Nikki wasn't going to be with us much longer, we sped up our search a bit. We interviewed several breeders (As much as I know the right thing to do is to rescue another, I just couldn't go through that again after losing both Buddy and Tilley in a relatively short time-span) and decided to go with one in Northern California (Vacaville). Just before Nikki passed, we were notified that a new litter is on the way and Puppies are expected by Easter.. We also found out that a breeder not too far from us had a new litter, and Mary and I went down to take a look at them…. Long story short, a little Male puppy latched on to Mary and would not let go. So now we have 2 new Rottweiler puppies coming to live with us. The first of which we will bring home 2 weeks from today.

I don't know if I'm ready for that. The loss of Nikki has hit me a lot harder than I expected it to, but I also know that puppies are a wonderful healing thing……
