We are so sad for you. We lost Sammy a little more than two weeks ago and we still ache with loss. I can only assure you that every day gets a little easier.

All of us, at some point in this ordeal, have questioned our decisions. The truth is, we can only do the best we can at that given time. Your decision to amputate was made out of love and the desire to share more time together. What could possibly be wrong with that? Some dogs breeze through the surgery and hop around on three paws like they were born that way; others have more trouble adjusting.

Your Maggie may have lost the ability to do some of the things she loved, but she retained what she most loved — you. And I am sure she knew how much you loved, and fought, for her.

Run free, Maggie.

Beth, Rick and Spirit Sammy

Smilin' Sammy, March 16, 2004 – Dec. 5, 2011 Golden retriever, diagnosed with osteosarcoma in September 2010 — right front leg amputated November 2010. He fought valiantly to stay with us; but a second diagnosis of osteosarcoma, this time in his left front leg, was more than our golden warrior could overcome. He loved his pack — and everyone else he met.
We loved him even more. Thanks for the pennies, Sammy. They helped.
