It is with a very sad and heavy heart that I have to tell you guys about Indy. A seizure took her from us a few hours before Thanksgiving dinner. Her body remained but her cognitive function was gone. We took her to the emergency vet, and they suggested giving her 12 to 24 hours to see if she could recover from the post-seizure state, but she never did. Our vet's theory is that the osteo had already spread to her brain on a microscopic level at the time of the amp, and it had aggressively grown over the past three weeks. She was put to sleep with my wife and I at her side about 5 PM last night.

Even with our mini-schnauzer and our three wacky cats, something definitely feels different about the home. I knew this day was coming, but we'd thought we'd have at least a few months, not a few weeks. I take some solace in the fact that she outlived her racer brothers and sisters by a good two years, and her post-amp days were happy and pain-free. An hour before her seizure, she ate one of her favorite bones and took a nap. I like to think that's what her final experience was.

I'd write more but my wife and I are emotionally exhausted right now. More of my thoughts are here, though you'll have to filter out some of the writing-centric stuff:

Thank you all for your care and support during this time. I'd never, ever, ever hesitate to amputate again.

I don't even know what to say.  I am stunned and heart sick.  Please know how absolutely sorry I am that you lost Indy. It has only been 18 days since we lost Emily so I understand how empty your house feels.  We have two other dogs and a cat and all three of my sons are at home again (adults but in school and/or working)  and still the house feels empty without our girl.  I am so so so sorry.

Night-night sweet Indy may you dream of chasing rabbits and running pain free in your forever sleep.

FYI: I've moved this topic to the Coping with Loss forum for all to share their condolences.

Peace.

Words can't express how sorry I am for your loss. Indy had a wonderful and happy life with you and she knows that you did the best that you could for her while she was with you on this earth. She is now at the Rainbow Bridge meeting all of her new Tripawds friends. She is not suffering anymore and she is running and playing pain free. Again, please accept my condolences.

I am so sorry to hear about Indy. I wish there were something I could do or say to relieve some pain, but I know there is not. Just know we are all here to support and listen whenever you need… I hope Indy met Shilo up at Rainbow bridge and they are talking about what wonderful parents they had who took every measure to give them a chance.

RIP….

Alisa & Angel ShiloAnne

Shilo diagnosed with osteosarcoma 9/4/2009, amputation 9/9/2009. ShiloAnne lost her battle 11/23/2009 where she regained her fourth leg and is patiently waiting for her parents to join her. We will always love you baby girl.

OMG! I'm so sorry to hear about Indy… Crying

She seemed to be doing so well after her surgery… I know, a few weeks is definitely not enough time… but then again, it's never enough time. My heart goes out to you and your family… She was a beautiful dog, and very lucky to have had you as her pawrents… I don't know what else to say… You are in my thoughts and prayers…

Sweet and peaceful dreams Indy…

I'm so sorry to hear about Indy.  Her avatar photo shows her sleeping, at peace; that is where she is now, with no more worries about cancer.  Our thoughts are with you and your family.

I didn't think I'd be able to look at pictures and video so soon, but I've found it to be extremely helpful to my own personal healing process. We shot a lot of video and it's very heartwarming to see her in action when she had four good (well, three and a half) legs. Whenever I need to feel better, there's always a video of her trying to steal food — that's worth a good a laugh.

We are very sorry to hear of Indy's passing and would like you to accept our deepest sympathy at you loss.  The loss of any of our warriors hurts the entire collective of this community.  Indy and your entire family fought very hard and we were very hopeful for a good recovery.  I am glad that you will have you videos to help you remember your great times.

Prayers that you will find peace and that you will soon be able to remember your Indy with a smile and not just the canyon of a hole that now exits.
