The holiday season brings very mixed emotions. With the lone exception of Chloe (who needed a rescue at the end of September), I brought each and every companion into my home and family during the holiday season. Starting with Chrissy (an Anti-Cruelty Society of Chicago “special” named after Chris Kringle), The Girls (Cassiopeia and Cassandra), Alexandra, Charites, and now Kara. However, it was the holiday season that I lost Cassy and of course today marks one year since Cherry’s journey came to a conclusion. The tone of this community has been much more positive during this year’s holiday season, but I attribute that to the huge losses that this community suffered last year. In the 19½ weeks from the end of October 2009 to the beginning of March 2010, this community lost at least twenty four of its members. They include, Tazzie, Marley, Emily, Jake, Taki, Angus Og, Shilo Anne, Indy, Maddie, Beacon, Willy, Tazzie (II), Leo, Peanut, Wiley, Cherry, Paris, Max, Caira Sue , Raven, Supai, Eva, Zoe, and Tehya. At first, a few continued to post within this site, but as time has moved on there are very few of us remaining who regularly contribute. I know that I often find it very difficult to read of the diagnosis, the setback, and the losses, but the Ampuversary celebrations will always generate smiles. Teyha and Holly share this “special day” with my memory of Cherry for both had their amputations on the same day as Cherry’s passing. Teyha’s story is very tragic because it lasted just slightly over two months, while we are anxiously awaiting Holly’s One Year Ampuversary announcement. Such is the emotional roller coaster one rides when staying part of this community.
Keeping up with a fifteen month old rescue that is going through puppy-hood now that she is in her “forever” home, and a fifteen week old Sheltie has definitely occupied my time and mind. However, I bought a Blue Ray player after Thanksgiving and have been moving both the short and full version of Cherry’s memorial to 1080p. Both look great – even through my tears. Now I only have to buy a Blue Ray burner to finish the project. This was the stimulus for this rather sentimental journey, but even more important to me is letting everyone know that our fallen warriors are NOT forgotten. We will just continue to build upon their experience base and pray that more of our members can experience the quality and longevity that has defined Nova, Trouble, Cemil, and our founder Jerry.
Today may designate the one year mark of the conclusion of Cherry’s journey, but it does not mark the conclusion of her impact upon my life. I know that I will shed many tears for her today, but I will also celebrate her life. The gifts that she gave me will live with me forever.

OfflineWow! Even though I'm at work and typing through the tears (and hoping no one comes to my desk) I have to give you big Kudos for such a thoughtful and thought provoking tribute. It is so very hard for me to realize there have been so many losses, we you've been here as long as we have, they all chisel out a special place in your heart and when they leave us, the pain is there even though they are not truly 'ours'.
Thank you so much for taking the time to put it into perspective and to share your thoughts. Missing that beautiful Cherry face, and those lovely flowing ears. I know her memory will always bring a smile and a tear.

Cherry wouldn't want it any other way. Cheers! To life. To love. To all the wonderful blessing our three-legged heroes teach us to appreciate. Thank you for the reminder.

Thank you for your thoughts today.
It meant so much to me to have veteran pawrents posting their experiences when I was first seeking solice and information, after JD's diagnosis. I am so not into the whole 'social media' thing…no Facebook or Twitter and until Tri-Pawds, no blogging. But the immediate connection that was formed when I found this wonderful community, opened my mind to all the good that can come from sharing experiences, hopes, wishes, prayers, information, updates-happy and sad. Not everyone we come across in our everyday lives understands the unique bonds we all seem to have with our fantastic fur-children. Here that is not an issue
The families who continue to post after the passing of their beloveds, touch my heart, and offer a stregnth from their experiences that can not be matched.
Thank you for continuing to honor Cherry- and a huge thanks to all the families, who by sharing their stories of love and pain, helped JD and me travel the Tri-pawd journey.

Thank you Bob. Your post was beautiful and one I can feel came from your heart. It made me think deeply about this past year and reminded me to always remain thankful!
That is beautiful, Bob. We always are thankful for all the posts that we share here on tripawds – the happy and the sad, since this is how we share our lives with our pups. This was a wonderful reflection on all that is tripawds. We lit our candles for Spirit Cherry and Angel Tehya today as we celebrated Holly's big ampuversary, and were very sad to add a candle for our hero Mackenzie. We smiled as we remembered to honor Spirit Cherry by having some ICE CREAM, though!!! And we remembered Spirit Cherry as Holly and I drove to the vet's office to ask them to celebrate this day with some cake – since I know Cherry loved car rides!
Thank you,
Susan

OnlineRoller coaster indeed, especially these last few weeks when again, we have too many losses here. It is so, so difficult to read about them and know that our families are hurting (like Mackenzie's), but if it wasn't for being able to follow along with other folks' parallel journeys that are filled with happy moments (like Jolly Holly's), I don't know what we would do.
We are so grateful for all of the celebrations here that we are invited to, it really keeps us holding on to hope and smiling when our hearts are aching so much. Embracing the moment at hand is what our dogs want, this is the Way of Dog.
Bob, this has been a momentous year for you and your family. May the candles burn ever brighter and may your heart be filled with even more love in the coming year. Thank you for being so active in our community, and sharing your life with us. Cheers my friend!

OfflineSo well put! You have truly caught the essence of the season.
This has been a very tough holiday season, as it is the first one without Skyler. To honor her, I will continue to be a part of this community, as you have all helped me to slowly heal. One of my favorite movies is "Pay It Forward" and that is how I've always lived my life.
Peace to all of you, and Happy New Year!

OfflineWell put indeed.
I cry daily for my Ruthie who fought so bravely for 9 months. I'm sorry there are so many of us here. Yet it is the community that makes it somewhat tolerable. So Happy New Year to everyone.
Cheers
